I'm "idiopathic" and I have had that happen to me too. I found that wrapping the feet and legs with ace bandages, starting from the bottom, and elevating the legs helped a lot. All edema is is fluid, [and gravity from standing and walking is pulling it down into the feet]. Don't wrap the bandages too tightly, and if you are elevated, you can remove them so they don't constrict. I think that if you keep the legs elevated for a few days in bed you'll see an improvement. It always helped me.Hope you feel better soon!Love,https://poems2order.wordpress.com/Subject: Does EN along Cause full leg edema? To: erythema_nodosum_Group Date: Friday, February 3, 2012, 12:12 PMI had a few more nodules show up about 6 days ago and ever since I have severe edema in my legs. Thank you everyone for your replies. It does make me feel a little better to see

that may just be an EN thing and nothing else more serious. I was really

becoming concerned because the swelling is painful in and of itself.

Unfortunately it is always there. Doesn't matter if it's first thing in the

morning or night. My doctors don't seem to really care or know what to do about

it.

I too cannot wear normal shoes! lol I have even outgrown one pair of slippers,

so I had to buy a new larger pair of slippers that slide on. I have to say it's

hilarious wearing slippers outside of the house, but what can ya do?! haha

I may try the ace bandage trick and see what happens. Keeping my feet up

shouldn't be a problem, but when I go to take them down after having them up for

a while, it is the most excruciating feeling. :( Do any of you get the most

awful pain in your shins?

Once again thank you so much! Just hearing from others makes me feel less alone.

:)

Hello. I have been reluctant to speak out, but I do have some insight on this issue. I have had repeated bouts of EN for at least 25 years. I have probably not paid enough attention to what worked and maybe mine has not been as bad as some. But, I will say that it has affected my entire adult life.

I agree with the doctors assessment that the "knots" impede the circulation and cause great swelling. One thing that I have found that helps is excercise- water exercise. I belong to a health club that has a pool with comfortably cool water (not cold) and when I either walk in the water, swim or participate in water aerobics, I find the swelling is lessened.

Just a thought, but I also find the water soothing.

I am sorry for your pain. It really does make you feel bad all over.

I hope this helps. Take care.

So sorry. I feel the pain - seeing your pictures. I too have had major swelling. I wasn't been able to wear normal shoes beginning last May. Finally in January, the swelling mostly went away. Every shoe I wore for months had to be slip on. My doctor told me the swelling was due to the interruption of the fluid - the nodules were making it impossible for the fluid to cycle thru and fluid would pool. I don't know if yours is like mine was, but in the morning it was almost normal sized (just a little swelling) and by late afternoon it looked like someone had inflated me.I began undergoing acupuncture and since then, the nodules have been much fewer, less painful and the swelling is much more under control.Best of luck with it all.Jill>> I had a few more nodules show up about 6 days ago and ever since I have severe edema in my legs. Hey guys!  Since I had my IUD swapped out for a non-hormonal Copper IUD my nodules and leg pain are gone.  But now I have to deal with having a period each month. Boooo!  LOL! Anyhow, I'll have a period any day if I can keep from having the EN flare ups!!!!

Just thought I would share my success story! :D YAY!bethany

  • 3 weeks later...

Just wanted to update and let everyone know you were all right. The swelling was

somehow related to EN. My nodules have made a huge improvement just within the

last 10 days. I was cautiously optimistic because every other time this

happened, I'd get a new nodule and be in even more pain. Well *crossing fingers*

I think this time it really is going away for good. Mine was due to strep, so

perhaps that's why I am seeing improvements only after 6 weeks.

God Bless all of you who have this chronically. I will keep you all in my

thoughts and prayers and ask for your healing. This has to be one of the most

painful and frustrating conditions I have ever had.
