Good Evening :)

I was hoping to get some input on two cases. Let me know if you have an pearls

of wisdom to share with a newbie.

Case #1

7 1/2 year old Doxie

2008 Ventral Slot for cervical disc

June 2012 T12-L1 myelopathy - no deep pain before or after surgery

Started rehab with me about 8 months ago

Initially both pelvic limbs very flaccid with limited response and no deep pain

Still difficult to assess deep pain as P does not look at/yelp/etc with testing

but tries to get away

His withdrawals are markedly stronger, including kicking back at hand

When have in supported stand and going through PROM P will place foot on his own

bilaterally

He can stand with minimal support on land, can stand in tub on own (no access to

H20 treadmill)

He will move both pelvic limbs very well with support and tail stimulation

O are interested in getting him a cart.

Would you get a cart for him or continue with rehab? I'm worried that if he

gets a cart and can motor around really fast with the cart he might lose some of

his drive in rehab. Does that happen? Or, would you get the cart and just

limit time? Or is it not a concern?

Also, who is making good carts?

Case #2

About 1 year old pit bull rescued from shelter, left rear leg amputated due to

previous trauma - amputate at proximal femur

Her O are very active, outdoor folks

Is there anyone out there making a rear limb prosthetic for a dog that does not

have any tib/fib?

Thanks so much for your help. My patients appreciate it :)
