Guest guest
Hi I have a patient with exactly the same problem at present, who has improved brilliantly. To the point where he has now got a nordic walker thingy so he can exercise at home. Couldn't walk down the garden in February - now his lung function tests are great and he feels very well, better than he has done for years. Exercising for half hour at a time. can do 15 mins on Nordic walker without getting puffed. Hospital is mighty impressed Obviously there are some things that relate just to him (BP was a bit high as well so he has Crataegus, but maybe heart needs support with all that coughing anyway) So the things I think cracked it were Pimpinella, Marrubium and Plantago major (not lanceleoata). he's had some archangelica too. Took a little while to clear the mucus, but he knew he needed to give it a bit of time and he doesn't have coughing fits any more. Hope that is helpful ======================================== Message Received: Dec 02 2008, 03:35 PM To: ukherbal-list Cc: Subject: Extrinsic allergic alveolitis Hi All Has anyone any experience in treating extrinsic allergic alveolitis? I have a lovely lady come to me with this problem - actually that is what the medics are saying but she is going into the Brompton for extensive tests in the New Year. She has had a constant cough for the past year following a bout of pneumonia. She has been constantly on and off antibiotics over this period. When it is acute she also has flu like symptoms - aching, fever. Sometimes migraine and vomiting because of the cough, most of the time she brings up little mucus which is clear. Her chest sounds terrible! wheezing and crackles. Triggers could include house move, divorce, obviously pneumonia has made worse. I have been giving her (off the top of my head) Inula, Thymus, Echinacea on and off when needed, Ephedra, lobelia...Plus massage with essential oils. She is losing weight because she is more ill than not. Cancer has been scanned/tested for. Does anyone have any wonderful ideas? X
Guest guest
Hi Sars, I've had a few like this too. I too give thymus and echinacea for the infectious times. I teach them " Stop the cough' Buteyko method. I can send you my sheet on this offlist if you like. Buteyko says that coughing, if there isn't a lungfull of infected gloop actually serves no purpose and is self perpetuating. I goes something like: Dry irritated membranes cause cough, cough cough, (very irritating) gasp a big lungfull of dry cold unfiltered air which further dries and irritates membranes, cough cough cough and so on. Also encourage nose breathing at all times. Warms, moistens and filters air and produces nice bronchial dilating and anti inflammatory nitric oxide. Main mixes have been Glyc. glabra, cetraria and plantago as anti inflammatory mm restoratives that have been very useful. Pimpinella as a anti spasmodic pectoral remedy. My favourite no cough remedy is prunus. I give them a bottle of tincture with gylcerine and get them to have a little swig as they need it - works really well. Guest guest
Hi , I had a similar patient last year and after making some progress with most of the herbs already mentioned by other list members, the key addition that really seemed to make a huge difference was Verbascum leaf  FE (I know that alot of authors recommend the flowers over the leaf, but I def found the leaf more powerful). cheers, gursewa.  Hi All Has anyone any experience in treating extrinsic allergic alveolitis? Guest guest
Hi Her sxs are similar to mycoplasma pneumonia which we see a lot of here in singapore. Patients tend to be put on 2 week courses of klacid at a time and the illness always comes back. I have had success with a base mix of myrrh, baptisia, echinacea and eleuthroccocus. I find that the eleuthro is necessary as so many of them are depleted by the illness. Then I add anything else that fits the individual picture. Hope this helps. sharita ________________________________ To: ukherbal-list Sent: Wednesday, 3 December 2008 8:31:30 Subject: RE: Extrinsic allergic alveolitis Hi , I had a similar patient last year and after making some progress with most of the herbs already mentioned by other list members, the key addition that really seemed to make a huge difference was Verbascum leaf  FE (I know that alot of authors recommend the flowers over the leaf, but I def found the leaf more powerful). cheers, gursewa.  Hi All Has anyone any experience in treating extrinsic allergic alveolitis?
