Seems like seminars/lectures can be just *filled* with distractions like that.I like it when they're recorded and I can just watch the recording later :-) To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Monday, March 19, 2012 1:35 PM Subject: Leg Swinging and Shaking

Someone recently posted that it bothers them when someone crosses their legs and swings the top leg. This, in addition to the sounds, has bothered me since the age of 11. Now I notice that a lot of males, while sitting, shake their legs up and down, with the foot remaining on the floor. They do it really fast, and I've noticed females doing this also. It appears that the person is really nervous, but they probably don't know they are shaking their legs. I was in a seminar last week, and a guy on my row was doing that, and I felt the tremendouse rage and wanted to stop the seminar and ask him to sit still, but I had to put up with it!! I felt like I missed out - didn't hear everything I was supposed to know because I was focusing on that crazy leg. My husband likes to shake his foot, and it drives me nuts. I remind him that it bothers me, and he acts like I'm being mean to him, and he gets mad at me. It's so frustrating.

I was flying cross country sitting next to a cute little Chinese man with a bad case of restless leg syndrome. He was driving me crazy! He finally fell asleep ( with his head on my shoulder mind you!), but that bouncy little leg of his never ceased for a second. I wanted to dump my Diet Sprite on his head, but was afraid I would get kicked off the plane!Oh, the joys of flying coach!Mike To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Monday, March 19, 2012 1:35 PM Subject: Leg Swinging and Shaking

Facemasks and noise canceling headphones on an airplane are a life saver. Even

if its a short flight I put them on and just try to fall asleep. Something about

being so close to a stranger, even if they arent shaking their legs, they might

move their jaw up and down, suck on their lips, tap their fingers on the

armrest, etc... it all drives me crazy.

I'm guilty of finger tapping when I am nervous. I would probably drive myself nuts if I had to sit next to myself. We humans are an annoying bunch!Mike To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2012 7:43 AM Subject: Re: Leg Swinging and Shaking

My son can not take any kind of movement. He can no longer sit in his high school class room, he sits outside the room and his teachers give him his homework. He is about 50/50 with sounds and movements.

I now sit in my living room during family meal times. I cook everything from

scratch.. Set the table beautifully.. My family sits down and - I leave the room

with a plate.

My husband shakes his leg so bad that any time he is doing it, I am mesmerized

by it. I stare at it without being able to stop, and rage builds in me until I

pop my cork. But sitting in the living room, I don't have to see it, so everyone

can have a peaceful family meal. Well, besides the family part for me lol

Having to be isolated from normal social activities, especially with you family, has to be about the saddest part of Misophonia. This is very hard on highly social and extroverted people. My mother, who also had this problem, and rarely ate with the family, drank very heavily I think as a way of dealing with this. She is 92 and still denies that she had the problem. I think she feels so bad that she passed it on to me. I have never told her that my daughter, her grandchild, has had it too for almost 30 years. It would break her heart to know that. I can relate. Sort of.

I have to be honest and say that the thought of getting completely plastered at

9 in the morning just to calm down has crossed my mind several times. What keeps

me from being an alcoholic are the facts that my mother turned to alcohol to

deal with HER Misophonia.. And I honestly just love my kids far too much to ever

let them see me drunk.

I cry every single night about it. I was so excited the other day. When my

husband came home I started reading almost the whole misophonia.info site to him

and I said " THIS IS WHAT I HAVE! I AM NOT NUTS! THIS IS IT! OH MY GOD!! " and for

the first time, I was able to read to him and get a response of " Now I

understand, and I will do whatever you need me to do to help you. "

Ironic that both of our mothers had Misophonia and drank to deal with it. What a curse this is!!But I am glad to hear that your husband is so understanding and willing to work with you. I am blessed with a wonderful spouse too. People who live with Misophonics should have there own support group and share ideas and feelings. It's nice to finally find out that you are not nuts and to be able to explain it to others. Be sure to tape the May Misophonia episode of 20/20 and gather the family around to watch it. Mike To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Friday, April 6, 2012 9:20 AM Subject: Re: Leg Swinging and Shaking

I plan to. I already put it in my phone calendar to try to find it on my DVR box come airing time!My mom didn't know it was Misophonia. I didn't even know that that was what it was until I found the site.

The site literally fit every single part of me. My mom just thought that she was a horrible and mean person andthat we would " never see a nice side of her again. "

My 3 kids have ADHD and since I recently read an article I found here, I might

have found the cause. My husband was 38+ when our first child was born and 44

for the last. My oldest constantly has to fidget with things. When I am having

a serious conversation with him he is playing with his socks or rubbing his feet

on the chair or touching anything in his reach. It distracts me to the point

that I have to tell him to stop, but he'll just move on to touch something else.

It drives me crazy!!!! My kids are constantly doing things that trigger my

misophonia. It's quite ironic that my middle son has misophonia as well and his

ranting about other people making annoying noises drives me nuts too!

I donate plasma to help with money issues, and I'm mostly bothered by noises;

It's always my biggest problem, and I of course have to use my earbuds and mp3

there. Even so, I'd like to have some over-the-ear headphones to go over my

earbuds (double protection, though I would only play the earbuds :) I could use

a construction-type noise isolating headset, but that would look weird) thing

is, there is no earbud I've yet found that completely seals up inside my ear, so

I still hear when doors slam and stuff. AAAAny way, I also bring a big thick

coat too; the saline solution they put into you to replace part of your plasma

is room temperature, but that is not the only reason for the coat. While I'm

donating, I have the coat kind of wadded up on top of my knees while I'm laying

back in the reclined seats used for donations, the coat helping to block the

visual movement of people right across from me fidgeting their legs or just

moving around in their donating seats in general. You can't close your eyes

because the technicians need to make sure that you are awake, since it takes

about an hour to donate. God I hate this sensory perception crap; as if my

learning disability wasn't holding me back enough in life. Fate definitely

doesn't discriminate or know when to stop. You find ways to make things a

little more tolerable, but it just isn't enough. It's got to go away.

Does anyone else notice that the effect is worse when the action in question is

on the edge of your perception?

I have a housemate that sits back in his recliner and rotates his foot

constantly. It drives me up a wall as it sits right in my peripheral vision arc

and always distracts me.

and swings the top leg. This, in addition to the sounds, has bothered me since

the age of 11. Now I notice that a lot of males, while sitting, shake their

legs up and down, with the foot remaining on the floor. They do it really fast,

and I've noticed females doing this also. It appears that the person is really

nervous, but they probably don't know they are shaking their legs. I was in a

seminar last week, and a guy on my row was doing that, and I felt the

tremendouse rage and wanted to stop the seminar and ask him to sit still, but I

had to put up with it!! I felt like I missed out - didn't hear everything I was

supposed to know because I was focusing on that crazy leg. My husband likes to

shake his foot, and it drives me nuts. I remind him that it bothers me, and he

acts like I'm being mean to him, and he gets mad at me. It's so frustrating.
