Guest guest
Like you, I have suffered for over 40 years. For 15 of those, I did nothing to block the noises. I carefully chose jobs that provided me with an office with a closing door. I never closed it to block the noise, but there was some supportive security knowing that I could close it. Thus, I was choosing exposure rather than being trapped by the noise. The result: there were long periods where I was unhappy daily if there was a noisy person seated near me. With the advent of noise-cancelling earphones, I took a job in a cube. Eventually a noise-bomber moved close, so now I wear Hearos foam earplugs under the noise-cancelling earphones, which allows me to play fairly loud brown noise without damaging my hearing. Like you, I wear them 6-8 hours a day, plus earplugs at night. The result: I have control over the noise, which gives me security. I’m happy with that. My misophonia doesn’t seem to be getting worse, at least not after 18 months. I still get some noise exposure while I’m talking to people, during which I switch to Plan B: I relax, and I remind myself that it is only temporary until I can return to my oasis. " -Musicman You call yourself " musicman " , but I'm the one who listens to music I have the same problem that you do, accept I use earbuds. I'm literally almost always wearing them. My living situation is such that my family makes noises that the thin walls don't block out, and when I'm outside of these walls, the huge plethora of sound triggers that I have force me to either be perpetually upset, or have my earbuds in. When I can get some money, soundproofing my walls will at least allow me a little bit of freedom from alternative music. Also, here lately, my left ear won't stop ringing *
