Guest guest
Hi! My first round of EN began in December of 2008. It was triggered by: 1)stress (out of the blue, my mom was diagnosed with 6 months to live + my work) 2)allergic reaction to antibiotics 3)undiagnosed strep throat I was very fortunate to have a physician who recognized the symptoms and immediately placed me on steroids. (Well, I can't believe I'm saying that I was fortunate enough to be placed on steroids but -- you know what I mean!) My next serious bout was in April 2011. Once again, I was having an allergic reaction to drugs and then my city was hit by a series of tornados -- massive amount of stress. Another umpteen rounds of steroids. But I've never felt back to 100% during this entire period. I always felt achy, tired, exhausted, barely functioning, and all other words used to describe tired. Then I began having nonstop intestinal distress and as a result, found out that I am gluten intolerant. Since dropping gluten from my diet, I feel 1,000% better! Now it is not fun -- my food selection sucks! I'm a gluten-intolerant vegetarian! But OMG, it is so worth it! I now have tons of energy, am losing the weight put on during the umpteen rounds of steroids, and no longer need 12 - 14 hours of sleep everynight! So after this incredibly long email (sorry!), my question is: are EN and gluten intolerance related? It's my understanding that they both fall into the autoimmune disorder category so could this have been one of triggers of EN? Maybe now it will never come back? thanks for any assistance you can provide....nan
