Guest guest
, Greg, best wishes in your continuing support of . Re diet, of course you have to ask her doctor. I have AIH only; I don't have experience with 's situation. My doctor said to eat whatever I wished, but her needs may be very different. He approved of high protein intake even in advanced cirrhosis -- 's doctor may not. When I began taking high doses of prednisone, plain yogurt with fresh fruit was the only thing I enjoyed eating. My gp approved it, although she was a bit uneasy about my high calcium intake. I used a yogurt strainer (just a fine mesh of any kind, really), which makes the yogurt less acid and drier, easier to eat.
Guest guest
Dear : Go to your search engine and put in Dr Johanna Budwig. You can do it youself. I know this brief message is like telling someone to dip in the Jordan 7 times but pay attention. You will have life. Harold [ ] Diet Hi all. I'm a bit confused here as to proper diet for my fiance's cancer...several people have told me conflicting things. I was just wondering if someone could give me advice and possible positive outcomes due to certain diet *and other treatments as well*. It would be much appreciated. My fiance has leiomyosarcoma in both lungs and the liver and his doctor has him on chemo every 5-6 weeks, but says that will only temporarily stop the growth. We're at wits end right now and don't have much money to travel and don't know where to look for financial support for special treatments (such as one mentioned to me in Tiajuana)---We live in central New York (near stown) and would appreciate it if someone could tell me of a sarcoma specialist in NYS, or even CT, MA, etc...east coast. Also, does anyone of a good nutritionist for cancer patients that I might contact? Sorry to ask so much. But you all have been so helpful so far. Please be patient with me. Gregg wants to know if being irritable, inpatient and a grouch is common in someone like 's condition? This is not like her at all. We received word today that the results of the tests done on 's liver are in. They are indicating that her liver is functioning at about 15%. Sure would appreciate some input on a diet for her. I am also curious if she can have Yogurt with fruit. I know she likes it and it would serve as a good snack. Thanks (again), Gregg Re: Diet Good Evening, 's home and on cloud nine right now. Guest guest
I haven't used prescription anti-fungals in about 10 years... there are many other alternatives that work great. I already posted the Candida Purge which is psyllium (husk & seeds), caprol (oil - not tablets) and Bentonite Liquid (not dry powder).... The purge can be found at www.wholeapproach.com (look under candida treatment) - i don't buy the purge ingred's there though because other places have them cheaper... wendy Re: Re: dietSo, what is your diet? I was just diagnosed and am not sure what path i'm going to take. I think i will stay on the macrobiotic diet for 6 months and see.. It seems to work for me--I have a hard time digesting animal proteins.. Also, I would like to go completely non-prescription and not take the anti-fungals. Have any of you had experience with this path? I just don't haave the money for the anti-fungals and I'm afraid that Diflucan will affect my liver. Guest guest
Hi, I would have to say from experience (unfortunately) that being grouchy and irritable can be expected for a little while. For me part of it was being scared out of my wits and feeling really lousy. The other parts were from the medications. It has gotten quite a bit better for me although I still have a shorter fuse than I had before. As far as diet, it can vary for each person I think. You may wish to ask her Dr. for a referral to a Nutritionist, or Naturopathic Physician. Also, I would suggest Palmer, MD's book on Liver Disease. I can't remember the title but I ordered it from Amazon.com and you can search by author. Good luck to you! na AIH 8/

Guest guest
>Hi Amy, I was on the Body Ecology Diet last year but my doctor discouraged it saying it was too restrictive. I still use some of the recipes in her book but am currently not following any specific diet. The sc diet was mentioned this week and that may be where I end up. Make sure you get enough essential fatty acids in your diet by adding olive oil or some of the flavored flax seed oils you can get at your health food store. I add at least a tablespoon to my soup after it's already heated, cook with olive oil, and add it to salads in place of dressing. Exercise is real important too. I hate to make the time for it but feel so much better after. As far as family support goes, my fiancee is super!! He even eats what I do when we're together (except at restaurants). My step-mom (she's 76) who taught nutrition at college level doesn't understand, nor does my brother who is an RN. I've just gotten to the age (44) where I'm going to do what I feel is necessary to get better and it really doesn't matter what they think. (Besides, I'm stubborn!) It's really healthier to eat what we have to .......... funny how different things look when you're not eating sugar anymore and you watch others packing it in. We're so much wiser than they are but look how long it took some of us (me) to get here. I suggest you look in the archives of this group and the yeast-L egroup. I believe you can get there via the following: http://www.infosky.net/~alexmi/candida.htm They have some wonderful suggestions as well. Â Written with the needs of the non-medical user in mind, but loaded with information. J. Worman, M.D: Â "Liver Disorders Sourcebook" ISBN 0-7373-0090-6. Â This book has a more academic tone but is quite readable by non-professionals.

Guest guest
i am finding all of this diet information fascinating and a little overwhelming....nick's diet consists of wheat and dairy and i am not kidding it's ALL wheat and dairy...here i am merrily giving him multivits because he doesn't eat a good variety of foods and then i see this about the vitamins. it seems as though i just don't know enough and i turn to the doctors about diet/nutrition info and they look at me as if i'm speaking in some nonunderstandable language and look at me as though i am this poor mother to be pitied...like i think switching his diet will make him not autistic and miraculously " cure " the down syndrome. what i cannot make them realize is that we are not looking for a cure...nick is nick and we love him for him which is why we are always trying to do stuff to make him healthier and happier. why do we as parents constantly have to dig for every tiny bit of information? i feel it in my bones that nick's autism has something to do with his diet or vice versa...not everything i am sure but there is something there. i still am not really sure what the " full autism " diet is that you are referring to, but i do know that there are certain things in nick's behavior that are changing since we have begun to decrease the wheat in his diet....we are slowly replacing the cream of wheat with cream of buckwheat which has no wheat, gluten or casein (contrary to its name). can't do anything too fast with dietary changes...nick watches us like a hawk when it comes to his food!!!!!!!!! i would love to know if anyone has had positive results using diet................and thank you for the heads up on the vitamins...i'll check brands etc. Re: Diet > In the discussion of vitamin therapy, it made me wonder , has anyone tried > the Autism diet with thier child? > I do not mean just for celiac, I mean the entire Autism diet. It is very strict. you can look atthis by going to his website at http://www.mercola.com. If you read the heading that says "read first" it will give you info on diet. He gives lots of other info on just about any topic in his newsletters...always an interesting read. I love his work. If I can help, just ask...I'm not all that educated, but I've learned so much since joining this group.
Guest guest
Dear Debi, There is a book called God's Way To Ultimate Health by Malkmus. The idea of the diet is to have lots of raw fruit and vegies and some raw nuts and seeds. Some extra virgin olive oil and or flax seed oil. Have about 15% cooked food. Salt is not really healthy. We use a thing called Bragg's Liquid Aminos. Herbs are great. It's like soy sauce but not as high in sodium. Distilled or filtered water is important too. Carrot juice and Barley Green are also used every day. The main thing is no animal products! This means no meat, fish, cheese, yoghurt, milk or eggs. It sounds pretty boring but you do get used to it and the benefits outweigh the hassles. We get up in the morning and have an 8oz. glass of home made fresh carrot juice. Then about 1/2 hour later we have a big fresh raw fruit salad. For lunch we eat lots of salad. Put in as many different raw vegies as possible. Experiment with different home made dressings. The shop stuff is full of preservatives. For dinner we eat another large salad with a cooked portion of something. This might be a baked potato, brown rice, wholemeal pasta etc. You can make raw pasta sauce in a blender and just heat it gently. The idea is not to kill the enzymes in the living food. We also home dehydrate fruits. These make a wonderful snack.(not too much if you have candida.) We have a Champion juicer and make frozen banana ice-cream in summer. This contains no animal products and is beautiful. We also make nut milk. This is much higher in calcium than cow'smilk and does not cause the problems that many people get from cow's milk. 1 cup of raw nuts, (sesame, sunfower, almond or cashew or combination of all.) 3 cups of distilled water. Place in blender and blend for a minute or 2. Pour through cheesecloth. Instead of discarding the left over pulp use it to make fresh tahini to spread on bread and baked potatoes. BANANA MILKSHAKE. 2 ripe frozen bananas. Freeze in plastic bags without skin on ) 6 pitted dates, 1/2 cup walnuts, 1 teaspoon Vanilla ess, 1 " honey, 2 cups nutmilk. Blend together and enjoy. For more recipes there is a book called " Recipes For Life From God's Garden " by Rhonda Malkmus. We eat very well, but just eat differently than we used to. I lost weight on this and eat much more than I used to. I used to starve myself to stay slim. Not anymore. Living food leaves you feeling more satisfied. My husband is very thin due to a malabsorbtion problem. He often has some toast at breakfast or lunch. I have found I also need extra carbohydrates sometimes. We found the Barley Green expensive so we grow our own and juice it with the carrots. We don't always stick to the diet 100% but do the best we can. If you are eating out try to find a salad bar where you can have some choices. When friends ask us out for dinner, we ask them if they can bake a potato and make a salad. Stir fried vegies are also a good idea when eating out. I hope this helps, Love, Rosemary. Rosemary - thanks for this info... was just talking with my (vegan) daughter, when she realized that she wasn't getting any calcium. Didn't realize that almonds were high in calcium. I made delicious drink in my VitaMix (oh, I love that machine - this used one I got at eBay was a Christmas present to myself, something I wanted for YEARS). Mixed a handful of almonds with enough water to blend, and a few dates to taste (to make it sweet enough, but not icky sweet). Then I wizzed the heck out of it. Mmmm, delicious. I am trying to make as much of my diet be raw as possible. I can't be too strict, because of everyone else eating regular. But I feel better with good, clean food, and cant' wait til I grow my mesclun lettuce mix again - just got my seeds!
