Hi, everyone. I just want to introduce myself and say how glad I am to have

found this group.

My name is , I'm 32 and I've suffered from misophonia (undiagnosed thus far)

since I was an early teen at least. I believe my father (who has since passed)

also had it. Nobody else I know has this or can relate, everyone thinks I'm

just irritable or mean.

I work in an office that's attached to a store that sells and installs home and

car audio items as well as appliances and bedding. I do accounting, which

involves a good bit of concentration at times. This place is driving me NUTS!

I have a coworker in the next office that eats Doritos or Cheetos intermittently

throughout the day, just about every day. She somehow manages to make her

computer mouse noisy, I think she lifts it up repeatedly while using it or

something so I hear it scrape against the desk over and over. She wears shoes

that make an awful squeaking noise on the floor with each and every step she

takes. She's a nice, sweet and caring person and I really like her, but I often

find myself wanting to punch her. When they're installing a car stereo system

in the garage, the walls literally shake from the bass and I want to physically

injure someone.

I live with my boyfriend of 2.5 years and his two cats. The only thing that

really triggers me about Dan is when he eats pretzels or chips while we're

watching TV, but the cats drive me insane with their constant licking of

themselves.

Yesterday afternoon when I was becoming highly irritated due to some of the

things mentioned above, I typed something along the lines of, " Hearing people

eat makes me angry " in my Google search and now here I am! I am so relieved to

have found not only that this is a valid condition and I'm not alone in my

insanity over it, but that there is a wonderful forum and support group. Thank

you all for being here! :-)

Hi !

Welcome to the group. I'm pretty new, too, and like you am so relieved to know

that what I've suffered with for most of my life is a valid condition. My

misophonia is very centered on mouth noises, but other repetitive sounds can get

to me, too. However, I find those other sounds like tapping to be more in the

range of ultra irritating rather than all-out rage-inducing.

I feel ya on the cat thing! Ive had cats in the past and that drove me nuts! My

little dog can really trigger me too. Seems like he prefers to eat his dry food

whenever I'm around despite having access to it all day. About Dan and the

crunching--one thing that I've mentioned on here before is that I find it

helpful to wear one ear plug on the side of the offending noise. It muffles the

noise but allows me to continue to interact.

I always somehow knew this affected more than just me. I Googled occasionally

for years hoping to find some recognition of this as " real " . I am so grateful

to Dr. J and others who have brought this to light and gave it a name.

Again, welcome!

I'm new here too. I was so shocked to find out that this is a real condition. I

thought i was the only one so I never even thought to look it up. I just

thought I was that irritable.
