Guest guest
I also had the same thought regarding ADHD and if Misophonia was linked in any way to ADHD. I am interested in knowing how many of us have children or family member's with an autism spectrum disorder or are on the spectrum ourselves. Has there been a poll done recently for those numbers? Just interested. I have 3 family members, cousins or their children, and also my son is HFA. I have Aspergers Syndrome. I am also noticing that the misophonia is getting worse as I get older. I am just filling my mind with info at this point and was wondering about those numbers. If not, could we make a poll? Guest guest
I have ADD and SPD, which is Sensory Processing Disorder. I believe my Misophonia is part of the SPD because it includes sensitivity to sounds (loud, soft, repetitive, etc). Sensory Over-Responsivity (also part of SPD) in particular is characterized by adverse responses to touch, visual, taste, sound, and/or smell stimuli. I don't have OCD, Asperger's, Autism, or anything else. There is also no history of any of those in my family. Guest guest
I have Asperger's (diagnosed in my 50s) and one of my brothers and one of his daughters probably do as well - though neither of them have misophonia as far as I can tell. So 3 out of the 11 descendants of my parents (probably) have an ASD. That said, I regularly post on Autism Spectrum discussion boards, and while misophonia comes up regularly there - probably every couple of months - I would say that only a minority of Aspies have misophonia. Most Aspies seem to react more to loud, sudden, or high-pitched sounds - and also to many other sensory problems (light, touch, taste, smell ...) - the classic type of sensory processing disorder. Sensory sensitivity is also quite common among people with ADHD, I believe, although not quite as common as it is among people " on the spectrum " . > > I am interested in knowing how many of us have children or family member's with an autism spectrum disorder or are on the spectrum ourselves. Guest guest
I suspect that I have Asperger's syndrome, although I've never been diagnosed.I was recently diagnosed with ADD.I have had misophonia since around the age of 8. Guest guest
I think there -can- be a connection, but to say there is a connection--wouldn't that imply that everyone with misophonia has those things? There are plenty of us without Autistm, anxiety, ADHD, etc. Just like I really strongly believe that my sound issues (whether it is misophonia or hyperacusis) is tied to the other two neurological problems that all three started at the exact same time... but that doesn't mean that every single one of you has neurological problems. --------------------------------------------------------- ♥ " Hope is more than a word; it's a state of being. Guest guest
I have fierce misophonia, and also really bad ADHD and Dyslexia. I also have a sort of mild social anxiety. I can be around people when they're not making noises, it's just that I always feel self conscious and don't speak much; taking speech in college was very painful. I would definately lean toward misophonia being an anxiety disorder, even though it's rage and not fear (it's still fight or flight regardless). > > > > > > > Anxiety disorders too! > > > > *From:* Shona Kerr > > *To:* Soundsensitivity > > *Sent:* Thursday, April 12, 2012 2:53 PM > > *Subject:* Re: Autism and Misophonia > > > > > > I also had the same thought regarding ADHD and if Misophonia was linked in > > any way to ADHD. Guest guest
I also have a brother who has MS and peripheral neuropathy, fibromyalgia, seizure disorder and other issues as well. Plus I have a daughter who was misdiagnosed with ADHD and it turned out she had bipolar disorder. Then I have two children with no neurological issues at all. I wasn't diagnosed till recently and Aspergers has not slowed me down as far as a job or education. I just wondered about the connections. I don't believe that every person with misophonia is going to have a neurological disorder alongside that. That is not to say that it wont crop up at a later date. Guest guest
I'm an Aspie and I have Misophonia. My son is an Aspie as well and does have some sound sensitivities but does not appear to have misophonia. My husband is most likely Asperger's but not diagnosed as of yet, and does not have misophonia. I have a few cousins on the Spectrum and I know the one does not have misophonia but I am unsure of the other two. OCD and Anxiety run in our family as well, and those of us on the Spectrum do have OCD and Anxiety and some ADHD qualities. > > I am interested in knowing how many of us have children or family member's with an autism spectrum disorder or are on the spectrum ourselves.
