Hi

What dosage are you on? My daughter is 15, she just started taking Zoloft (25mg/day), and doing behavioral therapy twice a week.

I'm also wondering if anyone else has any experience with Zoloft.

I am currently on 50mg, but before that I was on 100mg (I am an adult male.)I've noticed that what dosage I need to be on depends on how well things are going in my life in general. To: "Soundsensitivity " <Soundsensitivity > Sent: Monday, April 9, 2012 2:35

How long have you been on Zoloft? Did you have any withdrawal symptoms when you stop?

I've been on Zoloft for 3-4 years, on and off.I would often go several months on, several months off, etc...Withdrawal symptoms can be mitigated by weaning off slowly at the discretion of a doctor, but there is still likely to be some withdrawal towards the end.I don't experience horrible physical symptoms (I do get the "brain zap" that people talk about, but for me it's not that bad.)What is worse is my crashing emotional state; it can briefly dip to lower than it was before you started taking Zoloft, and I would tend to get irritable(I've had to miss work before because of withdrawal.) But, if you're smarter than I

am and go off slowly, the risk of bad withdrawal is lessened. To: "Soundsensitivity " <Soundsensitivity > Sent: Monday, April 9, 2012 3:16 PM Subject: Re: antidepressants?

Hi Group,For me Prozac is a wonder drug! Just as you said about Zoloft, though, it gives indirect relief from misophonia, at best.I know a psychiatrist who uses Holy Basil for anxiety. You can chew on fresh or frozen leaves or take it in supplement form. I have not tried it yet, and don't know what dosage for the supplement, but I will find out more on this and let y'all know.June To: "soundsensitivity " <soundsensitivity > Sent: Monday, April 9, 2012 4:02 PM Subject: antidepressants?

Prozac changed my life 22 years ago. It really helped my OCD and self-confidence. I was in therapy for years before that, but it took Prozac to allow me to implement what my shrink was telling me.

I’ve tried a lot of things to reduce the sexual side effects. Cymbalta is a definite improvement for me. I plan to try Mirtazapine, and I’ll let you know how it works out.

Celexa has been a life saver for me, the misophonia is so much worse without it. My dr. has me on 60mg., he thinks my misophonia may be related to ocd and ocd is treated with higher doses of antidepressants than depression. Still have misophonia, but i can deal better when on the medications. From:

It's interesting that some of the group have benefited from these drugs. Years

ago I was given them for a time because my ADD was misdiagnosed as depression.

The only thing they ever did was make me want to eat everything in sight! No

help emotionally, no help with the misophonia, and obviously no help with the

ADD. I've never had OCD, so I can't comment about that one. If they made a

drug that actually targeted misophonia I'd be delirious with joy!

Scientific American reported decreased anxiety in mice after they were fed Lactobacillus rhamnosus, a probiotic commonly found in yoghurt. I eat 20 million units a day in capsules from a nutrition store.

The anxiety pain I was having at the time decreased quickly and dramatically!

I wasn’t being triggered by my misophonia sounds at the time I started. I’ll bet it reduces that type of pain, too.

Hopefully,

Hi all,

So, I was taking prozac for about 1.5 years and just could not handle the sexual

side effects as well as weight gain and others. I was even told by my

dermatologist that it could be causing my HAIR TO FALL OUT. I stopped taking it

and continued on with my Wellbutrin and Trazadone but have found my misophonia

to be VERY heightened and my hair is still falling out. I remember it bothering

me a BIT when on the Prozac but not anything like this. Now I am thinking of

going back on Prozac just to take the edge off. Interesting to know about all

the others. I am going to look into Celexa as well.

Thank you!

This is interesting. My son, 9, experiences misophonia and he has also had

eczema his whole life. I have heard probiotics are helpful with eczema too.

Makes you wonder if there is just some overall reactive state the body gets

into. I will try this and see if it helps with either the eczema or the

misophonia. I am more interested in natural remedies than pharmaceuticals.

I've tried:Citalopram - no effect really, slightly less depression, a bit empty feeling.Zoloft - slight calming down effect at first, the first couple of weeks I was a sex maniac (couldn't stop thinking about it!) after that the side effects went, but so did the benefits.  Guess the benefit was due to distractions!

Prozac - never noticed anything other than feeling a bit more drowsy than usual and slightly empty headed.Buspirone - turned off my anxiety response to a large degree, was only allowed it for 2 months

Dexedrine - (ADHD) - no difference to sounds, a bit better focus wise

I am very surprised that Zoloft turns you into a sex maniac; a high enough dosage almost deactivates my sex drive completely!I guess medications affect different people in different ways. To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Tuesday, April 17, 2012 2:55 AM Subject: Re: Re: antidepressants?

My problem is that I’m unable to take any of these drugs with my job. I must find coping mechanisms to deal with my “problem.” I want to cut out their tongues. ;-) -AM -------------------------------------------- " Your representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgment; and he betrays instead of serving you if he sacrifices it to your opinion.” -- Edmund Burke, philosopher (1729-1797) from a speech to the Electors of Bristol (1774-11-03)

I take 5HTP, a supplement. For depression, it works better for me than prozac

but without any side effects at all. 5HTP is amino acids that are the

predecessors for creating serotonin.

The only possible problem is that you absolutely CANNOT take it if you are on an

SSRI type of anti depressant like pretty much all the ones listed in this

thread. You can get a buildup of serotonin in your brain if you take both, and

it can be fatal - serotonin syndrome.

Does it help with noises? No, but I prefer to be calm. It keeps me from crying

under stress and that alone builds my confidence.

My shrink is starting me on a new anti-depressant for my OCD. Viibryd is a new SSRI with reportedly much less sexual side effects than the others. It is not yet approved for anxiety, but he says the data looks positive for that. The Wikipedia entry is “vilazodoneâ€.

Hi Group,

I've found a lot of relief from Zoloft.

Not direct relief of misophonia symptoms -- indirect relief, because I calm down so much quicker.

There are side effects (tiredness + sexual side effects,)

and I would love it if there were a medication out there that worked as well as Zoloft, but without the side effects.

Anyone else experiencing relief from antidepressants?

I just started on Zoloft yesterday, because I've gotten to the point of having

crying spells and anxiety attacks at work and home.

I really do not want to be on any anti anxiety medication at all, but I think it

might be necessary for a while, because I've gone through many lifestyle changes

in the past 7 months, which seems to have made my anxiety/misophonia worse.

I moved to a new city, got a new job, quit smoking, changed birth control type,

broke up with my boyfriend, and had to adjust to a whole new life in a city with

very few friends, from living in the secluded mountains for the past 7 years

where I had lots of friends.

So, yeah, I've changed my whole life recently, and my doc said that with these

types of changes, anxiety is pretty normal. Maybe it's separate from my

misophonia, but it definitely makes my trigger sounds worse and my reactions to

them stronger and more disturbing to me.

Luckily, I get to move very soon and I really hope getting into a quieter

location/building will help.
