Guest guest
Well, some of us have both autism spectrum disorder and misophonia. It is possible that genetics explains both. One of the factors they point out is the age of the father at the time of conception: genetic material can change as the father ages. My father's father was 50 when my father was born, and I do wonder if that was one of the sources of our family's " interesting " genetic make-up. Of my parents' 11 descendants (i.e. my brothers and I, plus our respective children), 3 are on the autism spectrum, another has severe depression, another has borderline personality disorder, another has bipolar disorder, and at least two of the descendants have misophonia. It isn't all from the one source, though, as my mother's family also has a number of serious cases of depression (one suicide and two hospitalisations in both her brothers' families), and one of my brothers married a woman with bipolar disorder, and *her* daughter (my niece) is the one case of bipolar disorder mentioned above. I should donate my extended family to science. But yes, the article was interesting, and it would be great to see some similar genetic research on misophonia. > > This NYT article got me thinking that maybe Misophonia has a related gene or similar type of mutation...maybe they'll do a study like this on us someday! > > > Gene Studies of Autism Point to Mutations and Parents' Age > > http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/05/health/research/scientists-link-rare-gene-muta\ tions-to-heightened-risk-of-autism.html?pagewanted=2 & hp >
Guest guest
Misophonia is definitely genetic, like so many learning disorders. My father said he was bothered by sounds a long time ago, but managed to get over them; though he's mildly retarded, so it's dubious that he understands how truly bad it is for me (sad how he can make a better living than I ). My step brother has horrible anger issues and has had repeated incidents with the law. He lives his life as a drunkard, moving here and there trying to find some place in some city somewhere with good people but that also paradoxically has no law. Needless to say, this magical place has eluded him (he also manages a better living than me ). Supposedly, one of my kin kilt himself many years ago, I think before I was born. I do not know anything about him nor why he did it. I also have a cousin who, despite his not being bothered by much else at all, had a big problem with people eating with their mouths open. I have not seen him recently, as he is unscrupulous, dishonest, and leaves paper trails everywhere he goes like so many bread crumbs. Our near family does not associate with him. He's also a lady's man and changed his name from to Chance (has nothing to do with anything, but seriously). I think it's because anyone who has anything to do with him takes a big chance. Veering off the subject there, but whatever, I'm bored.
