Guest guest
TESTOSTERONE, SORRY SO LONG To and others, In regards to Testosterone, I'm one of those believers and users. I'm currently reading " The hormone of desire " the truth about sexuality, menopause and testosterone by Doctor Rako. She started research when she went through menopause, so she talks from experience. I find the book fascinating and for myself am thoroughly convinced that more than half of my problems are from the lack of it. I've only found a few books and several articles on Testosterone for women, (typical, no?) Listen to some of the effects of a 'deficiency'. Loss of sexual desire, Loss of sensation in the clitoris and nipples, difficulty reaching orgasm, thinning or loss of pubic hair, bone loss, loss of VITAL ENERGY AND DIMINISHED SENSE OF WELL BEING, FATIGUE, loss of muscle tone, mental sharpness, flatness of mood, skin dryness, atrophy of genital tissue, etc.etc. (Sound Familiar???) (Imagine the relationships destroyed too) What was really fascinating (and a SHOCK TO ME) is that Estrogen supplementation (like on H.R.T.) (Hormone replacement therapy) can DECREASE whatever Testosterone a woman may still be making. For more info on this, write back to me, or get the book. But its true!!!. She feels we need more Testosterone rather than so much estrogen, though we need both but in the right balance. The availability of Estratest, (a combination pill of Estrogen and Testos.) (I was on this a couple of years ago for a 3 mos trial) is estremely too high for women, but can be obtained separately from compounding pharmacy's for the correct dosages.. I'm fortunate, as its just become available at one of my local pharmacys. Now my story, I've been getting my blood levels tested every two weeks for the past 2 months. Each time my doctor telling me, that the levels were barely moving. So he kept increasing the Estrogen and the MethylTestosterone. WEll!!!! right now I could scream. Wait till I see him again. In the book she tells you that if your getting tested WHILE 'ON', them, the testosterone won't show up. HOW ABOUT THEM APPLES???? No wonder the levels didn't go up!!! Honest to pete, If I grow balls, I'll kick him in his. ha ha. By the way, don't listen to all that garbage about we as women getting so virilized like men, thats only at extremely high doses. This doctor Rako has had very few if any women with that problem. (I think men think its their thing), (God forbid, if we should feel sexy or good!!!!) There is a disorder called PCO (POLYCISTIC OVARY SYNDROME) and It has nothing to do with cystic ovaries!!!! but PCO can cause excessive body-hair growth, irregularity of mentrual periods, and overweight....(by the way,new studies in this too). On average we women produce only 3/10 of one milligram of testosterone per day. Men produce an average of 7 milligrams per day. (and my doc. has me on 10). See my frustration!!!!!!!!!ARGHHHHHHH, the good thing is I haven't been on it long. And Please, Please, this is NOT one of those, if a little is good, more is better!!!! In fact too much has the exact opposite effect. ******One thing If I may, I think it might be a good idea to post our age when we're writing, as that can sure make a difference as to what to tell someone. I can get some idea when you gals mention kids or school, but it would help, by the way, I'm 55.. opps, there I go again, getting too long (sorry!!). But please for more info, or if you want to talk, send me a post. Guest guest
Dee, I found your post very interesting. I've been tested and found that my testosterone was low, but had no idea that it could affect so many things. I didn't even realize there was oral testosterone. I had used the cream for a while, but didn't find any increase in sex drive or any less vaginal discomfort. My head is spinning with all of the information we have and need to process. We end up being our own G.P. and, I don't know about you, but I don't have any medical background, so I'm kind of going on my gut feelings. I (and my hormones) don't know if we're coming or going. I'm trying to treat, control and cure fibromyalgia, CFS, Lyme disease, multiple chemical sensitivity, vulvodynia, approaching menopause (I'm 48 and still regular at this point), worry about osteoporosis, weight gain, hair loss, sore breasts, no libido, and each doctor is suggesting a different diet, approach, medication, supplements, etc. I just want to SCREAM!!!!! Just sign me OVERWHELMED!!!! Janis P.S. But I want to know more about the testosterone, so keep me posted on what you learn from the book you're reading. But I don't want to grow a beard! Shaving my legs and pits is enough work. ---------- > > To: VulvarDisordersonelist > Subject: Re: TESTOSTERONE, > Date: Friday, November 20, 1998 3:06 AM > > > > > TESTOSTERONE, SORRY SO LONG > > > To and others, > In regards to Testosterone, I'm one of those believers and users.
