Guest guest
I don't have OCD so I'm not sure if it's a possible comorbid condition or not. The sounds, touches, etc that you mentioned are part of Sensory Processing Disorder (formerly known as Sensory Integration Disorder). There are no meds specifically prescribed for SPD. Coping techniques generally come from work with an occupational therapist. I personally consider my misophonia to be part of my SPD because, for me, I've found that it fits in like a hand-in-glove. If you want to read more about it, the SPD Foundation can be found at: spdnetwork.org and, as other people here have mentioned, the book by Sharon Heller called " Too Loud, Too Bright, Too Fast, Too Tight: What to Do If You Are Sensory Defensive in an Overstimulating World " is great for helping understand the condition, which can run anywhere from very mild to severe. Vicki > > Just curious, how many think they may have some form (mild or otherwise) of OCD-- is 4S connected to that, because we cannot seem to get our minds off those annoying sounds (and touching sensations, not being able to wear certain items of clothing etc). Are are brains wired like OCD, and we dwell on those things, enraging us, dread being with someone who does these things? What part of the brain is that, same as OCD? But the drugs for OCD don't help 4S, from my experience. > > Any thoughts from anybody who knows more than I do about this? >
Guest guest
I have OCD and social anxiety. Related conditions are described in the Wikipedia article for “anxiety disorderâ€. Like you, my OCD drugs don’t help with my misophonia. Hope this helps, From: lsalin Sent: Thursday, April 26, 2012 1:23 PM To: Soundsensitivity Subject: some form of OCD? Guest guest
I know on a few of the SPD checklists my OT has had me fill out they have asked about OCD like tendencies. I have a few, but not to any point where I can be diagnosed with OCD. > > Just curious, how many think they may have some form (mild or otherwise) of OCD-- is 4S connected to that, because we cannot seem to get our minds off those annoying sounds (and touching sensations, not being able to wear certain items of clothing etc).
