Guest guest
Just to make everyone's blood boil, I was watching the 20/20 program tonight and when kelly pronounced the name of the disorder, my brother said " Miso Phony " jokingly out loud. I was IN THE ROOM. Then, after the show, I get a comment from someone else on my youtube channel who says " me so phony ah... " . I replyed to him that I was tired of the mentally imcompitent assuptions that people fling at us, and he replyed back that he had witten a paper a while back on odd disorders like this, and says that he and a lot of other " professionals " he had talked to agree that most of it is just attention grabing bullcrap. I tryed to explain that if I wanted attention, I wouldn't go down a path that gave me the EXACT OPPOSITE of attention. I haven't gotten a reply yet. Maybe he thinks it's not worth it. Guest guest
People are often jerks about things they don't understand. Hopefully, as more awareness is raised, more people will accept it and will be less likely to make fun of it.I got irritated at Ripas co-host for making fun of the name. Oh if only people knew what it felt like for just one day! Guest guest
Don't let them get to you. There will always be people who just don't care. I know it's hard to deal with but we all know that this is certainly not an attention grabbing tactic. If I wanted attention, I'd dress in a pink tutu and go stand on the corner and I can guarantee that wouldn't be a pretty sight. Hah! There are going to much more positive things come out of this than negative and we need to focus on those. There's no rainbow without the rain right? > > Just to make everyone's blood boil, I was watching the 20/20 program tonight and when kelly pronounced the name of the disorder, my brother said " Miso Phony " jokingly out loud. Guest guest
I've heard things like " oh, it's all in your head.. " and " get over it.. " yada.. always thought something was wrong with just me, but now that there's a group of people who feel the same way I'm a little relieved. Comments like those do irritate me, because while yes, sometimes I do like attention - I don't like negative attention and that's what Misophonia seems to get me, just like you said. Just know that there are so many people here and we're going to find a lot more after this 20/20 airing that know more about how you feel and won't make remarks like the ones you've gotten. > > Just to make everyone's blood boil, I was watching the 20/20 program tonight and when kelly pronounced the name of the disorder, my brother said " Miso Phony " jokingly out loud. Guest guest
I know I'll probably get slated for this, but I don't think we should resort to name calling for people who mock our problem. It has to be admitted that to those who dont know anything about it it is weird - how many people introduce themselves here with a comment like 'I used to think I was just weird'? I guess that many of us would be saying exactly the same if we didn't have misophonia - I'm know I would. There are a lot of people out there who are trying to get attention for things that doesn't exist that they try to put forward as a medical problem - that is what some people will se us as. We also need to be wary of people coming on board saying that they suffer from this when they don't. Guest guest
Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. As a sufferer for 40+ years, I'm afraid that my patience has worn thin. In that regard, the next time someone says to me, "Just get over it!" I think I'm going to reply, "If you're unfortunate enough to be stricken with cancer, I'm not going to insult you by telling you to just get over it." Most people mean well, but others are just jerks. My wife watched the show with me. She was rather quiet through it. When it was over, we talked about it. While she has been totally supportive over the years, I don't think she had a clue how real the condition is. Truth be known, she was probably wondering whether I'm getting worse because of my recent rants about this idiot in the next cubicle shaking his ice in his glass ALL day long. It never bothered me before now. Trying to keep our condition from ruining the lives of our loved ones certainly adds to the stress of our having the condition. Such is life, I guess.
