Guest guest
There are certain songs that all my life I have just loved and when I hear them, it puts me right into a great mood....they don't even seem to go together but I will make a short list, I am not good with names and details so see if I can remember... Chicago--Make Me Smile Colin Young---On the Ridge McCartney --- Bluebird The Fray --- How to Save a Life Ingrid son --- Keep Breathing Gloria Gaynor --- I will survive There are more but this is a short list....we can really find music that pleases us in some way, don't you agree? Guest guest
Definitely the beach/waves. I only get to go to the ocean maybe once a year, and it's almost a religious experience for me. I grew up near the ocean always, and now that I'm in Colorado, I miss it every day. Then i realized it's so relaxing for me also, because it's the biggest, loudest natural white noise there is, and it's like instant relief for me to be there, emotionally and mentally. > > Ok, we can share on the realities but let's also include the other side of the walk here....tell us what is your FAVORITE sound/noise in the whole world! > > > *I have always liked the sound of the washing machine, doing my work for me! > > Dr. J >
Guest guest
My favorite sound has got to be music, but not just any music, because some music grates on my nerves. Music can set my mood, calm me or get me pumped up, like when getting ready to go out on the town or working out. And I like birds singing outside and gentle wind in the trees. It's funny how some folks posted running water as a fav, but I can't stand those fake " fountains " that are supposed to be calming. I find them super irritating. My dentist has one in his office waiting area and I couldn't sit there without wanting to smash something! Of course a real bubbling brook is fine when I'm out camping or hiking. No reaction whatsoever. After finding this group I realize I do not have it as bad as some have described. I take anti-depressants and that helps keep my mood stabilized, less irritable all around. Then there are times when I stop taking my Prozac for weeks for some reason, either forgetting or I run out and I feel the irritation to noise, oders and general impatience building back up. My triggers get worse with stress from work or money issues. > > Ok, we can share on the realities but let's also include the other side of the walk here....tell us what is your FAVORITE sound/noise in the whole world! > > > *I have always liked the sound of the washing machine, doing my work for me! > > Dr. J >

Guest guest
What a great idea. It is a relief to focus on a few good sounds. I LOVE being outside, and I love the sound of wind blowing through the trees, I usually like birds' songs, I love giggles, fountains, waves of the ocean. It is amazing that I am brought to tears just thinking about sounds that do not make me want to jam a fork in my ear. I am also triggered by certain sights, so I will mention a few sights I love. I love rippling water, cute little animals, sunshine through trees, falling leaves. Thank you for this homework. It was much needed. I think I need to try to immerse myself is pleasant nature-inspired sounds, and I am thinking about going out a purchasing a CD or MP3 so that during my long commute to and from work, I can lose myself in these safe sounds before facing the challenging ones. It has been a while since I have explored this forum, so I will look for suggestions. In the meantime, if anyone is interested in sharing their favorite suggestions, I am all ears! > > > > > > Ok, we can share on the realities but let's also include the other > side of the walk here....tell us what is your FAVORITE sound/noise in > the whole world! > > > > > > > > > *I have always liked the sound of the washing machine, doing my work > for me! > > > > > > Dr. J > > > > > >
Guest guest
Oh my gosh, my very favorite sound in the world is the wind blowing, hard, and the sound it makes as it whooshes through the trees. My husband and I moved to an area in Northern CA called Cordelia, it's a little junction right between Napa, Vallejo and Fairfield. It may be hard to envision if you're not familiar with the area, but we actually get a lot of breezes from the ocean here, and for about 9 months out of the year we have very strong winds. I have never loved anywhere as much as I love it here. Every night it's like going to bed with a white-noise machine, almost like the sound of the winds at the coast, but then there's that added layer of sound from the wind rustling the leaves and the grasses, and every once in a while we can hear the cows mooing on the hill. Absolutely lovely - I need to record it for the 3 months of the year when it's gone! > > Ok, we can share on the realities but let's also include the other side of the walk here....tell us what is your FAVORITE sound/noise in the whole world! > > > *I have always liked the sound of the washing machine, doing my work for me! > > Dr. J >

Nice to see how much the group has grown (OTOH, sorry to see so many fellow sufferers). I just stopped in after seeing the 20/20 promo. So, favorite sound: the delicate and slowly rising pitch of the glug, glug, glug when pouring wine from a new bottle. The sound is less noteworthy and eventually disappears when the bottle has less in it. I have been known to tip a bottle back a few times before actually pouring, in order to repeat the sound! With all the torment my ears pass along, I feel entitled to take advantage of listening to something so exquisite. Alas, it's still pretty brief! Also, if the neck of the bottle joins the body of the bottle at a sharp angle the sound is best. I guess it's a wave sound, the sound of liquid and air bubbles hitting that little neck. Go figure.
