I am so glad I found this group. For so long, I could not figure out what was

wrong with me. I can remember being young, sitting at the dinner table and

being ready to crawl out of my skin because my dad was either slurping his soup

or slurping his spaghetti. I would get instant rage. And the older I got the

worse it got. Repetitive office sounds drive me out of my mind. The sound of

someone stapling letters, opening envelopes, their fingernails clicking on the

keyboard of the computer, or better yet, a coworker chomping on an apple, chips,

ice or my favorite, almonds! And then there is that darn KIT KAT

commercial..the one that has no words, it's just the sound of people crunching

their candy bars. My fiance will drink the milk out of his cereal bowl and

slurps it. INSTANT rage. A friend of mine will constantly crack her gum as she

talks, and another coworker will talk as she is chomping on her little snacks.

One day a friend sent me a story from the NYTImes and said, " THIS IS YOU! " It

was the story about misophonia and how people can be driven into a rage from

certain sounds. Oh, it's definitely me. I try to put on headphones at work, but

the job I do, it's hard to do that. Sometimes a light fixture will make a

little humming noise. Or the air conditioner makes a slight constant noise. It

seems like the tiniest of noises are amplified to me. I took the misophonia

article to my doctor the last time I went and she had never heard of it. She

said she wanted to do some reading up on it. I guess there are a lot worse

things I could be inflicted with, but this is just really irritating!

I hope you can find some good ways to cope and maybe even find treatment through

this site. There's a lot of information to the far left column, under files and

links.

Oh and I forgot, another one of my favorite, when someone is eating a container

of yogurt, like the little dannon yogurt cups and they get down to the bottom

and they have to scrape every last little drop out with their plastic spoon...

Yes, the KIT KAT commercial! I remember thinking REALLY!!???? Even people who do

not have misophonia often don't really love the sound of people crunching. That

commercial has got to go...maybe it has already.

Once, I tried to make the KitKat commercial go away.. I emailed the Hershey company my carefully worded and descriptive complaint about their raunchy way of selling their candy-- told them in no uncertain terms how tasteless their ads were. They wrote back that my complaints were well taken, and they totally agreed with me. Then they went on to state that I should really be writing the Nestle company, the makers of KitKat. Egg on my face.

And why do all the TV shows have to prove that the actors are actually eating or drinking, by having them slurp or talk with their mouths full? I have to mute out and look away during meal scenes in movies and TV shows they are always so noisy and disgusting.

I agree! I do not need to hear that. UGH. Now how strange is it that I LOVE

LOVE LOVE the sound of ME popping bubble wrap? I do not like to listen to

anyone else do it, but I love to hear myself do it?
