Hi All.

If you're like me, you're quite upset over Trish's condition. I'd like to

briefly tell you of a success story so that you know there is hope.

In 1991, after seeing a bunch of Drs. about some numbness in his extremities,

Doug went to a neurologist who found a tumor on his spinal cord. He went

into NYU/Cornell to have it removed by a very renowned surgeon. That was on

9/29/91, I remember because it was our 2nd anniversary of being together and

I received flowers from him that had been arranged before his surgery. (Still

makes me teary with love and appreciation for him).

He left the hospital a week later, and the next day he was back to the

hospital because he was leaking spinal fluid. They went back in to do a

quick fix and scheduled more intense surgery for a few days later. He

contracted meningitis, that they treated with high dosages of steroids (why

he has hip and knee probs now) so the 3rd surgery was delayed. The 3rd time

was (not) the charm. He came out of the surgery and found he was paralyzed

from the waist down. He was in the hospital for another week, until he

couldn't stand the nursing and care he was receiving. My husband is a

wonderful man. He very rarely complains, and when he called me and begged me

to find a new neuro for him I knew it was bad. It took me THREE days of

non-stop calling to neurologists to find one who would take over his care. I

sent a limo to the hospital (it was that or an ambulance), he moved to a

hosp. in NJ where he received wonderful care. After three weeks, he began to

get feeling back in his legs. The steroids helped reduce the swelling in his

spinal cord, which then began to heal itself. He was moved to a rehab

facility and was there until Mid-November.

Ok, so it wasn't told briefly. I just wanted to let you all know (including

Trish if she's getting our posts somehow) that there is hope for that kind of

paralysis. The fact that she has pain in her leg is a wonderful sign. I'm

sure with the medical care she's receiving and thoughts and prayers from us,

she'll recouperate fully.

My life is full of medical success stories! Maybe next it will be the cure

for RSD!

Hugs to you!

Jo
