Guest guest
Does this Evi Shaw post and participate on this message board? I am curious as to why her aritcle does not mention any of the important auditory work that has been accomplished to found and further the identification and treatment approachs to misophonia. I see she has a clinic in psychology. Her articles is well written but leaves out some fairly crucial information, I think. Guest guest
I thought it was a pretty good article, and it seemed she got the basics right even if there could have been more on the work done to date, to Dr J's points. That other recent article in the Australian magazine Cosmos that linked the strong emotional state + noise as causation for misophonia was offensive. Personally speaking, because there is so little information out there in the public domain, I'm thrilled when someone gets even the basics right. When I think about how this condition has affected my entire life, I am so appreciative of anyone raising awareness in a widely-read forum like a newspaper. I liked her " call to action " to university students inviting them to do some research on misophonia.
Guest guest
Keep in mind, reading this that the tone seems to be that of a general awareness piece not a journal article. For that role it seems to accomplish its goals well namely: * It makes people aware that this is a medical condition not a behavioral one. * It is generally not well known and people have trouble getting treatment. And no " fix all " treatment has been discovered yet. * More work and awareness needs to be made about it. It does so in a way that a lot of other articles abandon namely grace. Most of the articles I read about misophonia focus on the anger and the rage and even sometimes the effect it has on loved ones who are just trying to live. This one mentions the symptoms and then gets to the more important topic of how difficult it is for us to cope with it and the efforts we have to go through to get through our day to day lives. I.E. what effect this has on our lives, not just our anger. > > > > > > > > http://www.gosanangelo.com/news/2012/apr/30/evi-shaw-little-help-for-those-who-s\ uffer-from/ > > >
