Accounting software

Anyone got any tips? I've tried PeachTree and Quickbooks. Both kind of

work ok, except when it comes to managing inventory. As formulators,

we use various units of measure (example grams and pounds and ounces

in one formula) but neither of these software programs calculate the

difference between the three. In other words, the inventory item

(Glycerin for example) is set up by any weight measure you choose. Say

I have 42 oz of glycerin. It is entered into the inventory at a

certain price per oz. Then say I'm making 4 oz test of something that

requires 4 grams of Glycerin. Neither of these programs will allow

that. You have to convert the 4 grams into ounces first before you

enter it into the program.

You would think that something as " mathmatical " as an accounting

program would do it for you, but as far as I can see, neither of these

do. If you set Glycerin inventory item up in price per grams, you

can't use ounces if your formulating. This makes it very difficult to

maintain inventory when you're using 4 grams of Glycerin for a test,

and 4 ounces of something for a batch.

What do you all use? I really don't want to spend more than $1200 on

software but not sure if there is anything even available. Right now

my excel sheets I made which convert my grams to oz and subtract the

inventory work great. I've set up master supplies lists with prices

per gram and excel calculates prices per oz and pound depending on the

recipe. I print it out and it gives me the entire recipe plus how much

it cost to make it. Works great. But my accountant says I need to

start keeping better track of what goes where.

I mean I guess I could set everything up in ounces since it's a middle

ground and convert everything as I input, but that defeats part of the

whole purpose of having accounting software for a business like this.
