Guest guest
Thanks Mike. I was googling them and that was one of the first ones that popped up so I am glad to hear a good review of it. I may just go and order that one. I am desperate and my ears are about to explode from the earbuds I have in.. and I cant take much more of the noise. Guest guest
I'm so sorry you have to suffer at work . I know what it is like having worked for over 40 years and enduring endless torture and sleepless nights. I hope this, and other things, can bring you some peace. Some people can't tolerate white noise. I love it. It is a very soothing whooshing sound that seems to calm me and blocks out a lot of those bothersome noises. Buy one and see how it works for you. Guest guest
I didn't know they had a brown noise option. I will check it out. Costs twice as much though. this condition has so plagued my life that the costs involved in dealing with it were always secondary to peace of mind. Guest guest
Yeah, I think most people probably feel that way. I do, except with 9 other chronic conditions and being mostly bedridden, I obviously can't work.. so I am very very limited in funds and even $20 is tough for me.. so $110 would take months of saving. I am going to try brown noise on my iPod though and see if that helps.. I may be able to use that instead. --------------------------------------------------------- ♥ " Hope is more than a word; it's a state of being. It's a firm belief God will come through. Guest guest
Mike,I don't have anything right now, but hopefully someday. There are noises that bother me, but for now I have been blocking them as much as possible with earplugs. I keep hearing mixed things--some say earplugs are okay and others say they are a very bad idea. I'd like to eventually transition from using earplugs to brown noise (or something similar). I am trying hard to leave my earplugs out during the day and just tolerate the noises (easier said than done), but I cannot sleep unless I have them in to block out some of the noises. I don't sleep well anyway due to chronic pain issues--and sleep is so important with all these pain and illness problems. Did you say that you had a white noise sleep machine? If so, do you use it just at night, or can you use it during the day? Can you travel with it? Those are the things I am curious about... if anyone out there knows! --------------------------------------------------------- ♥ " Hope is more than a word; it's a state of being. Guest guest
,Yes I do have a white noise machine. The Marpac and it really helps. I cannot sleep without a fan or some kind of white or brown noise. Been like that for about 40 years. It is a compact machine and is great for travel. It works well as a background noise around the house. I live in a deathly quiet home and can hear any sound at all. It makes a nice soothing background ambient noise to break the silence in my case or any other sudden or annoying sounds throughout the day. I like it but I guess it is an individual thing. The instructions suggest that you put it at a distance from your bed at night. MikeSent from my iPad Can someone please recommend an excellent noise machine that will block out sounds for me at work, such at teeth sucking, drumming on the desk, etc? I am hoping between the radio on my computer and a noise machine I may have some peace. Headphones start to hurt my ears after a while. I bought a fan hoping that it would drown some noise out but no such luck. Any specific brands that work best - maybe that offer a little variety of sound? Guest guest
MikeThanks--good to know. I live at home with my mom (since I can't completely care for myself right now) and we have a Habitat for Humanity home, but it was a donated house from 1927 that was gutted and redone. The floors are original (but covered with carpet) and they squeak anytime there is movement. We also have 3 cats and while I love and adore them, I can't sleep if I can't block out the noises of their movements in the middle of the night. They sleep most of the night now that they are adult cats, but one of them will get a spurt of energy and start ripping through the house at 4 am! Drive me bonkers. --------------------------------------------------------- ♥ " Hope is more than a word; it's a state of being. It's a firm belief God will come through. Mike  To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Monday, May 21, 2012 2:13 PM Subject: Re: Noise cancelling machine  Mike,I don't have anything right now, but hopefully someday. There are noises that bother me, but for now I have been blocking them as much as possible with earplugs. Guest guest
My mom and I were joking earlier about getting rid of our cats because they are such stinkers. One in particular () is always getting into things. He got outside today! He didn't get past the porch, but they are -not- allowed outside! Scared me when he got out. Of course we won't really get rid of them--when I am home alone all day every day, they are my " saving grace " . They provide a love and companionship that I definitely need when I don't feel well. I definitely want to try one of those sound machines (or something similar) someday. I think it would probably help me to sleep, and possibly even allow me to spend more time with my mom (who is my biggest trigger at this point so it is difficult to be in the same room as her). I just wasn't quite sure what to think of your offer of help--it surprised me. It's not often someone offers something like that. Very kind of you to want to help. Compact, lasts forever, adjustable tones. Simple design. Travels well. Get at Amazon with free shipping. Very soothing sound . Guest guest
Count me in sarah. I'll go in with micheal to help you buy it HeidiSent from my iPhone My mom and I were joking earlier about getting rid of our cats because they are such stinkers. One in particular () is always getting into things. He got outside today! He didn't get past the porch, but they are -not- allowed outside! Scared me when he got out. Of course we won't really get rid of them--when I am home alone all day every day, they are my "saving grace". Guest guest
The one I posted yesterday was: http://www.amazon.com/Ecotones-Sound-Sleep-Machine-ASM1002/dp/B002SMJQT4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8 & qid=1337707073 & sr=8-2 I've been trying to find one that just plays brown noise and not all the other noises because I figured it would be cheaper that way, but so far I haven't found anything except this one that plays brown noise. Has anyone else in this group found a brown noise player? So far I just checked Amazon and the Shopping tab on Google. Not sure where else to search... not even sure what kind of stores would have these nifty little machines. --------------------------------------------------------- ♥ " Hope is more than a word; it's a state of being. It makes a nice soothing background ambient noise to break the silence in my case or any other sudden or annoying sounds throughout the day. I like it but I guess it is an individual thing. The instructions suggest that you put it at a distance from your bed at night. Guest guest
,You should have your brown noise machine in 2 days. Probably by Friday. I hope it helps and give a report on it. I think I will by one too if you like it. Guest guest
Wow! That is quick. I am SO excited about this! I really hope it helps, not only to sleep but so that my mom and I can spend more time together. She's my best friend and I hate that we have to limit the small amount of time we have together!
