My period is late, should I start the P anyway?

Hi everyone,

I haven't been here in quite a while and usually only lurked when I

visited. I am hoping to hear from anyone who may have ideas on my

situation.

I am 49 yo (soon to be 50) and have been taking bio E & P by

sublingual troche. My prescribed regimen is .5 mg E daily and 100 mg

P for 3 weeks only (1 week off for my period). Prior to taking this,

my periods were regular but I struggled with depression, sleep issues,

mood swings, hot flashes, night sweats. My blood test which was done

over a year ago, showed E on the low end of the acceptable range and P

very low, everything else " normal " (I'm sorry, I don't have the exact

numbers handy at the moment).

Since starting bios my cycle has become more and more irregular; my

symptoms, however, have improved greatly. My cycles are either very

long (about 40 days) or short (about 20 days); there's only been a few

cycles of 28-32 days. I take E daily but I've tried adjusting the days

I take P; when I start P later than day 7, my cycles are short; when I

take P from day 7-28, my cycles are long. This last time I started P

on day 7 and stopped on day 21; my period never started and it's now 4

weeks late. I've called my NP on several occasions but she doesn't

seem concerned. This last episode she said to just go ahead and start

the P again but when I asked her if that would continue to delay my

period, she changed her mind and said to take just the E for another 2

weeks (which is where I'm at), then start the P.

My questions are: Do you think I should go ahead and start the P even

though my period hasn't started? Could my irregular cycle be part of

nearing menopause? Or are the bios supposed to help keep my cycle

regular? Am I not taking enough E or P? I'm really confused and not

confident in the advice given by my NP, and would really appreciate

hearing from others on this forum.

Thank you so much for listening.
