Guest guest
Hi . I've been dealing with it for about 40 years. Being older and not caring so much whether co-workers find me weird, anymore I just come right out and say I can't concentrate with your gum-cracking. Sometimes they cooperate, but once i had to escalate it with someone's manager, who agreed with me. I work in a cubicle. I feel one's workplace is sacrosanct, and i'd feel that about the classroom if i still went to school. But I just got this boldness fairly recently, as a result of finding this group and 'coming out'. Also, I have a boyfriend who truly does believe in this condition. I'm hurt that my brothers and my son don't take it seriously. As far as dealing with my biggest noise problem currently, which is the bar on the main street whose megawatt sound system bass comes into my house at least 3 nights a week, yes, driving me crazy: when i get home from my job around midnight, i put in earplugs, turn on a fan, the TV, and sequester myself in my bedroom with a book or music until i fall asleep. I feel less aggravated when i 'surrender' like that, since the city and police dept are no help whatsoever and i can't move away just yet. Good luck, I hope you find strategies that work for you.
