Nope. Masking doesn't work for me in the first place. I still focus on certain sounds, even when other sounds are louder. And there are times when I just get tired of sound and want quiet!

Am I the only one who can't tolerate anything that is meant to mask the original trigger by producing additional noise? lol

With me, the masking sound must be loud enough to completely drown out the offensive one. For example, I wear earbuds in bed at night to drown out my husband's snoring. I play music so loud that I can hear nothing else. Strangely, this enables me to sleep soundly.

Is a fan heater the same as a space heater? I have a space heater in my bedroom along with a fan, but the space heater doesn't make hardly any noise at all--not like a fan does.

Do you not have fan heaters in the US? When I still lived at home and needed some noise in my room, I used to use a fan heater that also had a cool setting. I used the cool setting in summer and the heat setting in winter. Though sometimes my room got so hot I had to put it back to the cool setting.

Some electric fans have thermostats and will blow hot air as well as cold. There are many different kinds. Central heat and air systems also use fans to circulate the air, but they don't make as much noise.

You are not alone. I can't stand the sound of fans. I don't turn on my stove fan unless dinner is practically on fire! I can't handle white noise etc. I spend most of my time in quiet.
