undertook research at Bristol University Medical School, Marine Biological

Association Laboratories, Plymouth; Max Planck Institute, Bad Nauheim; Playfair

Institute Toronto amongst other places. Interest in herbal medicine derived from

his pharmacology training, he qualified as a medical herbalist through the

School of Phytotherapy (2000): his wife Lee having qualified 4 years previously.

He was course leader in the early days of the chiropractic degree course at

University of Glamorgan, where he is now establishing a research base for the

Dr Ann

Ann is part-time Senior Lecturer in Human Nutrition in the Hugh Sinclair

Unit of Human Nutrition at the School of Chemistry, Food Biosciences & Pharmacy

as a herbal practitioner in the ‘western’ mode, qualifying in 1994. She

runs a Clinic from her home 2 days a week where she treats patients suffering

from a wide variety of conditions with a combination of nutrition and herbal

medicine. At the University of Reading her clinical studies have involved the

volunteers with a range of health problems, including PMS, adverse menopausal

symptoms, type II diabetes

and hypertension. She is the author of several books on human nutrition and

report on “Echinacea and the common coldâ€.

foraging, fungi etc. As an author, he writes books on health and consumer

issues and is both a print and a broadcast journalist, with columns in magazines

and newspapers and occasionally appearances on radio and TV.

Emma Salmon

After a career in the fashion and media business, a change of direction led to

Emma gaining a BSc in Herbal Medicine from the University of East London in

2006, completing most of her training whilst the Course was still run by the

College of Phytotherapy. Her interest in the management of Cystic Fibrosis began

when her, then, 4 year old daughter was diagnosed with the disease during the

2nd year of the Course, and so Emma has developed relationships with both the CF

trust and several parents of CF children in regards to this. Her final year

research into the role of herbal medicine in the treatment of CF was recognised

as an innovative piece of work by the NIMH, and was awarded the Nigel Winn award

for student projects. Since graduating she has worked in Battle with Herbal

Practitioner Jackie Saull-Hunt, and is in the process of setting up a dedicated

Clinic of Herbal Medicine on an organic farm which will specialise in

children’s health and provide

the setting for an educational facility. Emma also runs a design company,

producing eco products such as organic childrenswear, hand crafted cloth

nappies, and baby-related herbal items.
