Guest guest
Is steam-distilled bergamot EO dangerous for the skin in sunlight? I found a website that sells steam-distilled bergamot EO and they still have warning about using it on skin. Thanks, Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi there, This is an old post so not sure if you are still looking for an answer but.... Bergamot oil naturally contains a chemical called Bergaptine. This reacts to sunlight and can cause irritation. Bergamot oil is usually cold pressed. This is because as a citrus oil some of the chemical constituents would evaporate if it was steam distilled. However, I have noticed a few web sites saying that their oil is steam distilled so who knows! If you are using Bergamot for aromatherapy I would use the cold pressed version and avoid sunlight. If you are just using it for the smell, go with some other citrus note! > > Is steam-distilled bergamot EO dangerous for the skin in sunlight?
