You'd think Neurologists would do NFB given that it is a direct treatment of the brain but they consider it "alternative" so psychologist-type health care professionals have taken up the task of providing NFB.

Let me reassure you, you have NOTHING to be worried about. It does not get any easier than NFB in terms of a treatment, because you sit in a chair and do nothing, sometimes you even fall asleep and level all calm and ready for bed, it's awesome.

To get your brain mapped either using QEED or LENS, your provider attaches electrodes to your head which are attached to a computer which has the QEED or LENS software. You literally sit while the computer does the mapping of your brain. LENS provides instant results and you can see the map on the screen, you'll see your hotspots and your underused spots. QEED has to be analyzed which takes time. Most providers will have you fill out a form to figure our your symptoms and will ask you questions in order to develop the treatment protocol best suited to you. Once your provider has a map of your brain, s/he decides which NFB software to use and where in the brain to address the NFB -- following the map and your symptoms. During these NFB sessions, the electrodes are placed on your head and attached to the computer and the software runs. During this time you watch a TV monitor, sometime a movie, sometimes a changing image, sometimes an animation and for some software you hold a teddy bear that vibrates. The idea is that your brain wants things to be at the optimum level. It wants the screen to be bright, the image to be big, the image to be in focus, the sound to be steady, the bear to vibrate, so the computer is telling certain parts of the brain to work harder or certain parts to stop working so hard and when the brain complies, those wants happen: picture gets brighter, sound gets clearer, image in focus, bear vibrates etc. Your brain is being "trained" to perform at a certain level.

Some people get improvement immediately, some take time. For those who have tried it for Miso, the first thing we all seem to notice is a huge improvement in sleep and for me that has been a huge help as my miso is ALWAYS worse when I have lack of sleep. So my miso has quieted down because of that. The next thing seems to be an improvement in mood. Which for me also helps my miso. The next thing is an improvement in anxiety which also complicates miso. I do not have anxiety but I am a little on the amped side, this has really calmed down for me, a don't get stressed as easily in life.

Apparently our condition is deep down in the brain attached to the limbic which is not directly accessible by NFB so it takes a awhile to reach it. That means those (i.e. Clyle and his son) who reached improved did numerous sessions, it 41 sessions before they noticed improved an in his words got to the point the condition was "bearable to live with." It took Clyle 79 sessions to really see a drastic change in himself, his son was on his way by 41. However, there were times when their miso got worse before it got better as the brain was working it out. They felt totally "cured" of miso when Cyle reached 111 sessions and his son 64 sessions. That is a LOT of sessions.

The good thing about NFB is once your brain is re trained it stays, you do not have to do this the rest of your life.

I am only at 17 sessions. I am noticing a difference in sleep, mood, stress and somewhat even in miso as I am finding that while I am still triggered, it doesn't give my those immediate butterflies in my stomach nor does my heart race, I'm just really annoyed, which for me is a big step in the right direction. I have dedicated myself to 80 sessions and will wait to see how it turns out an of course report my findings here. The improvement overall after 17 sessions has been worth it for me because sleep has been a battle since I was 15.

Also, you should know that unresolved physical illnesses can get in the way. For instance, if you have a gluten allergy that you don't know about and are eating gluten, or you're allergic to mold and living in a moldy environment, it's really hard to get NFB to be at it's most effective. I actually have had the gene test to see if I have a gluten allergy since the blood tests aren't as reliable, to make sure that that very common allergy (apparently 50% of americans have that gene) is not impeding my progress.

Good luck and make sure to tell us how it goes.

Heidi

I meant Nuerofeedback - I'm sorry! If they don't question you or anything, how do they map your brain waves or whatever?
