Haha, I have the same triggers. Well yard equipment doesn't bother me as much, however if I could hear it IN my house it would.Loved you post, I'm bout to head out from work or I would make a list as well...will do it later :)Subject: Listing the Sound Triggers is TheraputicTo: Soundsensitivity Date: Friday, June 29, 2012, 5:38 PM

My original post was on June 18 with a list of some of the more annoying noise triggers that evoke rage. I'm compelled to continue listing specific triggers, as the simple act of listing these seems to be theraputic:

^Those horrible, God-forsaken, exagerated bass frequency, brain rattling. ear splitting automobile sound systems that are typically playing simply ugly "music"___

^Those "little idiot" loud fart-muffler cars driven by "little idiots"___

^Working in a public or office enviroment on a computer and bearing the excrutiating agony of listening to someone else hum to themselves, emit some other kind of grating vocal emissions, talking to themselves, or talking to others about content that has no relevance to their work task at hand___

^The bi-weekly invasion of the lawn maintainence crew at my apartment building with their torturous weed wackers, mowers, and blowers. Thank God I'm not at home during most of their visits!

^Those public cell-phone users who are oblivious to the consideration of personal acoustic space they should afford everyone around them- especially those of us with DST, 4S or how ever you like to label your (our) problem___

Enough listing for now.

I'm curious what percent of the population have decreased sound tolerances, what kind of sounds, and to what degree.

When I first read this, I thought it said, " listening to sound triggers " ; and

since it's on my mind, has anyone actually tryed to record the sounds that

bother them and play the sounds over and over without a break in between the

sounds?

I need to list a couple triggers too. I'm working at my customary summer job again this year. The first thing I did was to bring my can of W-D 40 and oil the office door. I'm sure it hasn't been oiled since I did it last year, judging from the amount of dust and grime on the thing. I can't imagine how the others didn't even notice it! It was SO loud and annoying! Also, I am sick of the trivial conversations by the "life-is-one-big-party" peeps. They move in little cliques, and since I'm not part of the "in crowd," I am invisable to them. I think they'd just step right on me if I didn't move out of the way. I had one loud-mouthed idiot walk right through the room I was working in, hollering into her cell phone about someone's birthday. Then,

she turned around and yelled to someone else to "Come on over" to her office as she tromped through my work area once again. I keep the back door locked now, so sometimes she is forced to go the long way. Hopefully, she'll get the whif. I will not return next year, and that's a liberating thought, but I still need to persevere until this "sentence" is over. I come home after work and hide in my room, ready to explode at anyone and anything annoying. I was quite peaceful and content before this job started. I also hate the micro-managing pig in charge, but that's another story. Thanks for listening. BTW, I'm not getting e-mails anymore either.

Desdamona,

You said: " I was quite peaceful and content before this job started. "

Do you mean you were not sensitive to certain sounds before you started your

customary summer job?

I tend to understand these sound sensitivities that we have is longstanding, and

gradually manifest over many years, at least for me.

Oh boy - sound triggers - noticed that the 'usual triggers' get to me too.

What's scary is the rage I feel but usually can't express and how it creeps

further and deeper into my life. Strangely, two neighbors chatting nearby

infuriates me when their voices 'invade' my apartment/cave, yet the overwhelming

noise of the Blue Angels delights and excites me. Wondering about hypnosis.

Anyone tried it?

I have tried hypnosis many times before I knew my symptoms were not

psychological. It helped with coping and calming, but did not reduce or

eliminate my sensory symptoms. Hypnosis can help the mind, but in my experience

not the brain. On the other hand, it's my understanding that hypnosis can help

with illness due to the mind-body connection. One can only give it a try. Good

luck.
