Similar to neurological triggers in PTSD?

Just wondering if the neurological problem might be in any way similar to the way triggers in PTSD set off hyper responses. I know it's different in that PTSD triggers are related to actual trauma in the past, but I'm wondering if some of the electrical impulses in the brain might be similar.
