Guest guest
Hello, I discussed with my miso case with my benefit coordinator (my work is paying for my insurance) and I would like any specific info anyone can provide about what doctor to go to and what code to use in order to get NFB possibly covered. My insurance covers outpatient mental health visits with a copay, which is completely doable for me. Most NFBs I found online seem to be also therapists, so that may help with the insurance. How did you go about getting a referral? What has to be done to make sure my sessions are covered? I found only one provider in my area on that list from the link on this forum, and he notes in his file that he doesn't take insurance Is there any other resource out there to find NFB providers? Any suggestions and strategies are welcome! My benefit coordinator is researching this for me, and I may have to switch to PPO too, but it's worth it. I just don't really have the funds to pay full price for 100 sessions. How often do you go? Once a week or multiple times? Thanks! I'm really hopeful
Guest guest
I would be interested in this information as well as most of the insurance companies I am familiar with have specific policies stating on their web sites and via reviewers, no covereage for any form of bio feedback. I believe a health savings account can be used, but again, this is your own money set aside with a slight tax advantage (pre-tax fund) usually decided once a year. Guest guest
My benefit coordinator told me just now that they do cover biofeedback as a sort of physical therapy, and there is a code for it. I'm just not sure if that's enough to cover neurofeedback, as they aren't the same and may not be viewed the same for insurance purposes (although NFB is referred to as EEG Biofeedback). She also mentioned that they also cover hyperacusis, and even though that's not the same as miso, I may be able get coverage with a bit of paper shuffling I'll report back when I find out more, but would still like to hear from others who are successfully covered their treatment. BTW, I'm insured in SoCal under Anthem, and I may have to switch to PPO. I found another BCN provider in my area who's willing to work with me on the insurance issue - if nothing else, she has sliding-scale pricing. I'm seeing her in a couple of days to discuss. Guest guest
You don't have them code it as nuerofeedback unless you are SURE your insurance covers it. They code it as therapy. Guest guest
Oh, I see! Thanks! Did you mean like talk therapy/psychotherapy? Or physical therapy? They do cover biofeedback as physical therapy, and they do cover hyperacusis, I just don't know if they accept biofeedback as treatment option. She will get back to me on that. Otherwise, I'll see what the doctor I'm seeing in two days can do for me. I'm hoping I didn't shoot myself in the foot by asking for help from the insurance benefit coordinator. Whooops. > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > I discussed with my miso case with my benefit coordinator (my work is paying for my insurance) and I would like any specific info anyone can provide about what doctor to go to and what code to use in order to get NFB possibly covered. > > > > > > > > My insurance covers outpatient mental health visits with a copay, which is completely doable for me. Guest guest
Be very careful here, as mis-coding is actually a kind of felony and can be punished by fines and even jail time. A health practitioner must use the code that most closely identifies the typs of procedure or therapy. Random checks and audits may catch up with providers who mis-use codes. This is a very serious matter and your provider should know that if you ask them to mis-code an item, they will be taking a huge risk. You can lose your license and be barred from practicing. There is a code fo neuro-bio feedback and your provider knows it very well. Trust me on that. You should ask the provider for the code and they should be able to provide it without hestitation. Guest guest
HSAs are available only in conjunction with High Deductible Insurance Plans. If you go to a bank or brokerage to open a Health Savings Account to take advantage of pre-tax dollars paying for medical expenses without having to have med expenses exceed 7+% of AGI, they will ask if you have a HDHP but will nor verify. So if you do not know what you are doing and you open an HSA in error and use it for anything wether it's coded properly or not, you are in BIG trouble. HSA is very different from FSA. A Flexible Spending Account opened in conjunction with a (usually) employer-sponsored health plan is pre-tax dollars set aside throughout the year to cover the costs of co-pays and Rx, etc at a rate determined at the beginning of the year. The money may be used " in advance " since it is salary-deduction. also - - FSAs are use-it-or-lose-it plans, unused HSA funds can be rolled year after year (max contribution amounts apply to both). Sorry to go so long but this is as serious as the mis-coding issue that Dr mentioned later. Please consult an advisor . . . > > > > Hello, > > > > I discussed with my miso case with my benefit coordinator (my work is paying for my insurance) and I would like any specific info anyone can provide about what doctor to go to and what code to use in order to get NFB possibly covered. > > > > My insurance covers outpatient mental health visits with a copay, which is completely doable for me. Guest guest
If you are seeing a therapist and they provide therapy as well it is not a felony to code it as such HeidiSent from my iPhoneReal Results. Guest guest
The doctor I saw yesterday also works with someone else who has the same insurance as I, and is working out the details now. In the meantime, I was hoping I can start with the evaluation, but the first one will cost $500 (cognitive) and the second one is $800-1000, when she actually does the EEG. How did you get the evaluations covered? I'm hoping at least the first one, being a psychological eval falls under therapy, which my insurance does cover, even my HMO. Thanks!
