Hello Elissa,The first person to write about nfb is clyle53. If you put in the number 24453 while on the soundsensitivity board you will find Clyle53's very informative message. It wasn't until he posted it, that I decided to take nfb seriously. One person a year previously mentioned it to me but I thought, I can't afford it and it probably won't work. Well after my daughter attempted suicide I thought I had to try it. Nothing else worked and in fact everything we tried only made her worse. So I did what clyle said to do and went to www.bcia.org and looked up people in my area. I found someone in the next town over. He said to make sure they are BCN credited and she was. To my surprise she was the same person who was

recommended to me a year before from someone in my mediation class. It was mentioned to me in passing but I thought it's too expensive for us to try. Not until clyle's story did I take it seriously and the fact that my daughter couldn't go on the way she was any longer. I made the call while my daughter was still in the hospital and it was the greatest conversation I had with any professional. I made an appointment for my husband to take my daughter and they talked with her for over two hours while she explained everything. At that point I couldn't talk around my daughter. She then made another appt. with me and we talked for a few hours also. Both appointments she didn't charge us. She was heartbroken to hear my daughter's story. She does the zengar nfb. I believe it the newest kind. I'm embarrassed to admit I am not quite sure how to describe it to you. I know with zengar you don't need a

brain mapping. It performs in real time and mapping your brain the entire time. My therapist believes in this kind because she says what you mapped a month ago might not be the same a month later. So it shows what the brain is doing each session. I am not an expert and it is hard to explain what took her hours to explain to me. I am sorry I don't feel confident enough and I don't want to misguide you. I know that nfb helps break up old stuck patterns. All I can explain are the wonderful results. I know Heidi is great at defining it. I definitely made a scary jump into nfb with a leap of faith and it's working. After years of being laughed at, making my husband and I feel like the worst parents in the world, I finally found someone who is helping us. Ok so down to the cost. She didn't ask for any money up front. We pay as we go. I live paycheck to paycheck so i

wouldn't be able to do it if she did want us to put money up front. Anyway, she charges $180.00 per session. She also said that she would work with us. And she did. She asked me what I could afford and i didn't want to embarrass myself by saying nothing, so I said, $80.00 a session and she said, "ok." I couldn't believe it. Also our insurance covers $44.40 for each session. She is out of network and codes it as a therapy session which she does with my daughter too. My daughter only goes once a week. I hope this is helpful.Bernadette

I am very encouraged by your success. My daughter, Colleen, will turn 12 at the end of the month. She has always been sensitive to certain noises but is worsening with time including shutting our door at night and spending more time in her room isolating herself from the family.

I don't know much about neurofeedback and am hoping you can give me more details. How do you fined a good practitioner that has worked with children? A rough idea of the cost and how often is doing therapy would be really helpful, too. Any questions to ask before initiating therapy to screen the therapist?

The last thing I want to do is have Colleen show up for a session or two then find out it is too expensive or too lengthy of a process or the therapist is not right and us having to stop it prematurely--I think that may to more damage than good.

I am very encouraged by your success and appreciate any wisdom you can give,

Elissa
