Guest guest
Definitely! Loud chewing is far & away my worst trigger. It's so bad that I once had to leave a restaurant shaking with clenched fists in an angry rage because a guy on the other side of the room was smacking so loudly I couldn't escape it. Just thinking about it, or even now recalling it 3 years later to write this post, makes my blood rise and were I to dwell on it it would become torturous. Also, the sound of silverwear hitting a plate doesn't bother me, but my dad is such a loud eater (when I visit I often leave the room until he's finished eating) that if I can only hear his utensils hit the plate, I associate it with the smacking & the same frustrated rage overcomes me even if I'm far enough away not to hear the smacking. Does anyone else have this experience?

Guest guest
Absolutely! And in my experience, some dishware causes more problems than others. We have regular plates but also some stoneware ones that I kind of hide from the rest of the family since they cause a weird scraping noise that really bothers me. Guest guest
I most certainly do. I have trouble even thinking about going to a movie theater because of a bad experience with a popcorn eater behind me years ago. And if I even see someone take out a piece of gum, I have to work at self control. Sent from my iPhone
Guest guest
My triggers started when I was ten years old and have continued for fifty years but I would not call them memories I just call them my triggers. Pam
Guest guest
Hi Pam, you are lucky that you can disconnect from your memories enough that they do not re-trigger for you. If I allow myself to think about a memory enough to write or tell someone about it, the trigger snaps and I relive the experience. Guest guest
Definitely. Anyone eating annoys me even if they aren't particularly loud, just the sound of crunching and chewing and swallowing. I remember going camping with my friend and she was eating so loudly in the tent I recorded her and played it to her over and over again in her ear until she stopped. Looking back that was probably a bit extreme :-) > > Loud chewing is far & away my worst trigger. Guest guest
I absolutely have the same experiences. And it feels exactly the same way with me. I'm sorry you have to go through this, but I still appreciate the assurance that I'm not the only one.
