Guest guest
Does anyone else have a problem with not being able to tolerate barking dogs? Especially when I'm home and I hear the neighbor's dogs. It's got so bad I think I hear dogs barking (when there are no dogs barking) and very often It wakes me up at night. It cause an immediate adrenaline rush and an anxiety attack. I also have GAD. Anyone have any ideas? I sleep with my iPhone ear-buds in and I have three white noise machines in my apartment. Guest guest
I think most people, even those without misophonia, find repetitive dog barking annoying, to one degree or another. (It's on my mental list of ten-most-hated-sounds.) I call Animal Control in my town when someone's dog barks incessantly. They have visited the offenders' owners and told them a neighbor requests that they keep their dog controlled. It's been helpful in my neighborhood, as I have kind neighbors. I don't think this would work for everyone, but it's a suggestion. Does anyone else have a problem with not being able to tolerate barking dogs? Especially when I'm home and I hear the neighbor's dogs. It's got so bad I think I hear dogs barking (when there are no dogs barking) and very often It wakes me up at night. Guest guest
I believe there are also ordinances in every town. My town you must keep your " barking " dog inside after 10 PM. Absolutely!!! I basically live inside my house with doors and windows shut tight. I love being in the backyard and gardening, but cannot do it because of the neighborhood dogs. I'm lucky that at night I do not hear any dogs, but cricket noise keeps me from opening the window and letting the evening cool air in. *heavy sigh* When I have to mow the lawn I keep my ipod on. I also have GAD. I have 3 white noise machines too!! I sleep with foam earplugs. best of luck... Susie

Guest guest
that is so sad...my daughter cannot tolerate the crickets either, and it is one of my favorite sounds of summer. A beautiful cool evening tonight, and the windows must be shut. Even the fans don't help cover the noise. Hope we will one day enjoy these summer nights... Guest guest
Well I'm not one for barking dogs either but now the super loud base noise coming from passing cars does put me on the ceiling. Guest guest
Hello, I am a new member and dog barking is my NO.1 trigger by far. It would paralyze me with anxietyand rage. I can listen to dogs barking on TV/audio and it doesn't provoke the kind of reaction that a neighborhood dog does. I think it's not having control over it and thoughts of how inconsiderate the neighbor is. Also, I have anxiety just going home after work because I might hear it.I have tried everything from SSRI medications to noise machines and earplugs. Nothing helps, but I am starting to realize that running from it reinforces the thoughts and makes things worse. No other choice than to expose myself to it and tell my fight-or-flight brain to accept it. Well I'm not one for barking dogs either but now the super loud base noise coming from passing cars does put me on the ceiling. Guest guest
You might try earplugs plus noise-canceling earphones playing brown noise. That setup gives me an oasis from some pretty loud trigger noises. The earplugs allow me to play the brown noise quite loudly without damaging my hearing. If my trigger noises get through, I crank up the volume temporarily. Best wishes, From: Visen Sent: Monday, August 20, 2012 5:19 PM To: Soundsensitivity Subject: Re: Re: Dog Barking? Guest guest
There are a lot of dog-barking detterent devices out there you might want to try – some hang on a tree facing the neighbors and some are hand-held – and they send out a noise in response to the barking that’s “uncomfortable” to the dogs and they soon figure out to stop barking so they won’t feel/hear that. The only thing to be careful of is that there are a lot of people here who can hear those frequencies that supposedly only dogs can hear!
