Misophonia and my job

I discovered that misophonia was something real when I read about it on

Pinterest of all places. There was a card saying something like when you want to

kill someone because of the sound of their breathing or eating, it is called

misophonia! I googled it and cried when I read the description. It is great

seeing the posts here just to know I'm not crazy and not alone!

In September 2008, I started a job working for a nonprofit that rents office

space in a church. The church has a preschool and a parents' morning out

program, and my office is on the second floor of the building overlooking the

playground. Since the children go to the playground in shifts, I hear kids

screaming from 9am-1pm every day. After reading the posts here, I decided to

try wearing an Ipod at work (I set it low enough so I could hear the phone ring

and hear my coworker), and it made an amazing difference in my state of mind. I

did try talking to my boss about relocation of our office, but he works at a

different location and believes that I am overreacting, so I am looking for a

new job.

Thank you all for your contributions here, and I hope that we will find peace

soon!

Kristy
