Guest guest
When this paper was posted over at the Hyperacusis Network (where it was posted first), the article was posted along with an email from Jastreboff to Dan as a foreword:"The 20/20 presentation (on misophonia) caused lots of confusion and demands from both patients and audiologists. I am getting a lot of requests for advice and for comments. In this situation the fastest and probably optimal reaction for me would be posting the text I sent you on my web page, but I do not want to do it before you post it on yours. Would it be possible that you post it over the weekend and then I will do the same? I honestly believe that doing this will help many confused and scared patients and help professionals as well." Confused and Scared Patients? Not sure exactly what segment of the population he wrote the article for, those like us who have the type of misophonia that was portrayed on 20/20? If so, does this article clear up confusion or relieve anxiety for us?And where is the advice on where to go from here?!Seems to me it's just another freaking definition of the word "misophonia" If anything if I had just found out I had misophonia, it wouldn't help at all that he is mostly talking about tinnitus and hyperacusis, , seems to me he is evading the issue maybe because he just doesn't have a clue??. I am sure will be renamed/categorized someday by people who have the authority to do so, researchers, doctors, medical panels.Just my 2 cents from the peanut gallery. Sorry for my peevishness, I have to go on a family road trip and gathering from hell next week for a funeral and I am so freaking out. So thankful to have the white-noise ipod tool for the car trip and hotel!!!! maybe I won't loose my mind. Thinking about adding horse blinders to my sunglasses to block sideviews of visual triggers in the car. I will bringing my Klonopin that's for sure, though probably not a good idea for driving. I've only been reading this list a couple of months, but have read a lot of archives, both here and at the Hyperacusis Network. However, I haven't fully worked out how the name misophonia supplanted 4S. How did it happen? It's rather awkward now when the condition is getting some publicity, and there are claims of being able to treat misophonia that are really talking about something different. The Jastreboff article posted on the HN site is now on his website as well: http://www.tinnitus-pjj.com/. I note that when he describes how it starts, he doesn't mention anything resembling the accounts given by so many people here, and I've not seen people here describing the triggering events he lists. That really makes me think he's talking about different groups of people.
