Guest guest
Hi , In our list rules we ask folks to change the subject line if the thread has diverged from the original topic. Sometimes we forget (I do too) and no one is going to get moderated for forgetting .. unless someone did this habitually just to annoy people, but I've never known that to happen, anywhere.. Some lists do ask their members to insert " was " (such and such a topic) but we don't. If folks want to insert " was, etc.. " great, sometimes I do too if it seems appropriate to do so. However, as in the case of this post I'm writing now, it in no way relates to Cheryl's post, so as a courtesy to her, I change the header entirely. If you read these posts on the ASPIRES Yahoo groups web page, or get these posts in digest form, Yahoo groups will link the post with previous ones in that same general line of conversation, as long as the poster " replied " to a previous post in the topic, and just changed the header - and *hopefully* snipped most of the previous posters comments, *unless* they were replying to specific points in that post. Judicious editing is a plain courtesy that 1) makes the posts easier to follow for those who receive this group's mail in digest form and 2) Makes it possible for those who have slow connections and/or have limits on their bandwidth to get all their mail, not just some of it. Though in larger urban centers slow internet may seem like a thing of the past, believe you me I know people in outlying communities around here who still have dial-up connections, and can't use their cell phones at home because they are in " dead zones. " Many members here do read the posts on the web, I do too, as it seems the easiest way to follow posts, and refer back to them later. - Helen Moderator of ASPIRES > A request: when you change the subject line, don't just change it from " XXXXXX " to " YYYYYYY " ; instead change it from " XXXXXX " to " YYYYYYYY was (XXXXXXX) " . This will allow those of us who had been following the XXXXXX thread to realize it has changed its name to YYYYYYY, so that if we wanted to refer back to an earlier post in the thread to refresh our minds about some point we will know that YYYYYYY is a continuation of XXXXXXX. > > Thanks! > ~
