Guest guest
That is a very good question! It seems so odd that those are so common with this. I have problems now with accents and loud voices.Sent from my iPad Has anyone figured out why these particular sounds (among the others) are so commonly troubling for us? Why these sounds & not others? some of my top irritants: chewing noises, especially crunchy things music or tv from another room/car/house noisy breathing saliva noises when talking swallowing noises somebody scratching/picking at their skin (the visual kills me) clacking of a computer keyboard pretty much any repetitive noise (dripping, tapping, snapping) basketball that rattling inside your car you can't locate silverware against teeth styrofoam!! the visual of someone nervously moving their leg up & down =

My very top sound irritant, like yours, is crunching. Ugh! Especially when someone puts something like a chip into their mouth and LOUDLY bites down (almost like they WANT it to make noise) while their mouth is still open. That gets me worse than anything. Popcorn is bad, but my biggest issue is with chips. I'm thinking 'I can eat chips without being noisy, why can't you!?' I also hate the noises of bags rumpling. Like when someone is folding or opening a bag of chips. The visual of moving legs or other body parts don't even bother me though. I do wonder what it is about certain things that set us off. Guest guest
I think it's the repetition that causes a " soft " sound to become a trigger for us. And when we have meals together we hear it over and over and over. And then we go to school and hear the sniffing of little kids and on and on and on. That's why we tend to " get more " triggers: we become more exposed to more repeated sounds. Our brains somehow cannot process background noise as background noise (my husband swears to me that crunching etc is just background noise). I think you answered your own question with " pretty much any repetitive noise " It hasn't got much to do with our hearing - it has lots to do with our brains! > > Has anyone figured out why these particular sounds (among the others) are so commonly troubling for us?
