It is how the data is stored that is the key.

I told them that I was a medical practitioner with case notes on paper.

That does not come within the remit of the ICO. They asked me if I sent

letters of referral. If they are done on a computer, that in itself is

sufficient to trigger the need for registration. I specifically asked

them about colleagues who may be acupuncturists or herbalists. The same

applies, only paper records are fine, anything on a computer makes a

need for registration.

At least that will save you 35 quid - anyone who does not use a

computer. I guess that counts everyone out on this discussion group!!
