Hello,

I was asked to get additional input regarding vetting a potential new Specialty

Care Pharmacy Provider.

We typically use Careplus and are satisfied with their services.

Does your Transplant Center have a Contract/Agreement or any other with a

Specialty Pharmacy in order to be able to provide discharge medications to our

patients.

Any suggestions that you may have are welcome.

Thanks,

Fahmy

Thanks Whitney. I was asked: “How does a specialty pharmacy contract with us or have an association with us to be able to provide discharge medications to our patients. A recent transplant recipient’s husband, owns a pharmacy and is very interested in this. “ I answered: Currently, I do not believe there is a formal agreement/Contract btw Careplus and us. We just utilize their services for convenience as they are located in DC and have a National network, have experience in Tx meds, and provide some facilities for certain pts, including International embassy pts. Questions you may want to ask are: -Does he take Medicare, Medicaid?-Is he part of a National Network?-Is he able to deliver meds to the Hospital, prior to pt’s being discharged?-Can he manage to agree with payments (not always timely) from certain embassies?-Does he have the necessary staff to operate?Etc… Any other suggestions? we do not have a contract or offical agreement, but we use three different mail order providers to obtain discharge transplant medications. This way if a patient has issues with one, they may use another.

We use: Care Plus , Amber Pharmacy, and TAS.

We have a Walgreens specialty pharmacy within our hospital that we use. We do not have a contract; we just use them primarily as it’s convenient for all involved

and we have a great relationship with them. We never have billing issues, and they go above and beyond for us and our patients.
