Guest guest
The Cath is processed to the cost report because it is still part of the screening process. It is not a treatment of the donors condition. Deidra M. Would the Cardiac Cath be billed to the recipients insurance (Medicare Cost report) or since the DSE was positive, would the Cardiac Cath be billed to the donors insurance? Guest guest
Hi Sandy,The Cath is being utilized to determine if the donor is a good donor or not. If there is no intervention it is billed to the cost report, not the recipients insurance. If there is an intervention, it becomes care and is billed to the donor's insurance. In the best of worlds you need to get a consent from the donor indicating that they understand that is there is an intervention that they will be billed, if not, then they won't.Please remember, the recipient is not directly billed for ANY part of the donor's pre transplant evaluation process. It is the financial responsibility of the transplant center to provide donor evaluation services and the donors responsibility if there is any "care" involved.Hope this helps,Thanks,BillReply-To: <TxFinancialCoordinators >Date: Friday, June 15, 2012 11:37 AMTo: <TxFinancialCoordinators >Subject: Donor Testing We have a donor who has a positive dobutamine stress echo (DSE), one of the Dr's on our team wants to do a Cardiac Cath to rule out a false positive.
