Guest guest
Just curious. Since a lot of people with misophonia tend to withdraw from people (understandably so) I wondered if the rest of you find companionship in pets? Do you have a hard time dealing with pet noises as well? I have had this misophonia issue for as long as I can remember. I remember being only a few years old & yelling at my sister for " smacking " her food. She's my twin and her case of misophonia is WAY worse than mine. See, I get raging angry, but I silently curse & yell. If I feel like I can't be around a certain person & their noise any longer, I will get away quickly. She can't. She rages wherever she's at. She's been known to give a little slap to other family members over their eating noises. Anyways, the point is, pets. I have 3 cats, a weiner dog, a hamster & for a temporary time right now, a turtle. The worst noise for me is smacking or crunching. There are others that send me into a bling rage, but the most common is eating noises. However, I notice that when my cat is licking her water, it doesn't even bother me! The dog though, he can get me a tad crazy, but nothing like the sound of real people doing it. It's just a different sound to me. Is it the same with you? While my pets eating/drinking sounds don't bother me near as much as people's do, they do have noises that really send me into a hysterical rage. For instance, one of my cats scratches at my bedroom window every single night about 1-2 AM! She does it early in the morning too. Any time she pleases, she'll scratch her claws on my window. Oh my! It is a sound that truly makes me see red. She never lets up until I get her inside the house. It's the worst sound -- a cat's claws on a window. Worse than nails on chalkboard! My other cats & pets really don't make disturbing sounds at all. When the window-clawer meows over & over and over while I'm trying to sleep, it can get to me. She's the only one who's high maintenance though. Hubert, my hamster, he doesn't EVER bother me except when he chews on his plastic food holder, which isn't often. He does it if food is stuck in the container. It's annoying, but pets (except the window-clawer) don't bother me near as much as people. My pets are pretty quiet though. Most of them don't make much racket. When my darn weiner dog barks over & over for nothing, I will get angry & yell if it's really unbearable/continuous. What about ya'll?
