DLI isn’t directly addressed in the Medicare coverage rules. However, our center has never had a DLI reimbursement issue with Medicare in cases where allogeneic transplantation itself was clearly a covered service. Our docs would now like to give this patient a DLI for failure to engraft. Are there any other centers out there who have had to do this? AND does Medicare pay for this?I could not see that the study/Medicare covers DLI for diagnosis of MDS after Allo.Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!Thank you!Kim Transplant Financial CoordinatorBMT Jewish HospitalSt. Louis

Kim, We’ve given DLI to patients with MDS, but none of those were Medicare patients. We’ve only been doing allo BMT for Medicare patients since early 2011 because of the Coverage with Evidence Development (CED) ruling, and none of those patients have needed DLI (yet). We’ve given DLI to Medicare patients with various types of leukemia and those were paid.
