Guest guest
Lona, YES it could cause a flare up in your I.C. Aspartame is a no no and I think that Metimucil has citric acid, you might want to check that. Also the orange flavoring is artificial which could pose another problem if you are sensitive to it. I seem to remember in one of your posts that you said you take vitamin C. People with I.C. can't tolerate vitamin C unless it's buffered and according to Dr. s vitamin C causes you to produce more oxalates which may also be increasing your pain. Guest guest
From: Deb at DLitzfletc@... Re: orange favored, sugar free Metamucil I have tried both the sugar free and regular Metamucil. I think the sugar free irritates my IC more. I also think the orange flavor has citric acid in it, which I find to be a bladder irritant. I'm not sure if this is just me, or a common reaction with IC. My bladder is particularly sensitive to citric acid, tomatoes products, onion, spices, and milk products. Guest guest
Just what I thought. I have discovered that I think yeast may be involved too. Wonder if stress can bring that on? I was on antibiotics, for what I thought was a bladder infection. It seems to be centered on the clitoris and urethra. Guess I better watch my diet more carefully. I can't use vaginal creams for yeast because they make me itch worse, Another question. Has anyone had a yeast infection cause uterine cramping? Bring a silver bullet. p.s. I can't take vitamin c in any form. I pay big time.. Guest guest
My experience is 'yes', I do get IC attacks from drinking metamucil. It didn't happen for the first 25 yrs that I used it, but I am experiencing more and more allergies and now my bladder burns when I drink it - also use sugar free or whole seed from the health food store. Guest guest
Another note: Artificial sweeteners are definitely known to cause IC attacks by many many people. Strong suggestion to avoid. Alice
