Guest guest
Verily, weekends suck harder than uncomfortable silences broken by sudden noise. Our neighbors used to shoot guns that raddled our windows; thankfully, I haven't heard them shoot for quite a while (I've been spending most of my time in my bedroom these days though). We live out in the country, so we don't have to listen to music so much as shooting, or personal vehicles with purposefully loud engines, whether for hauling or for ego. Noise canceling headphones are good for medium to low frequency, though most of the sounds that easily penetrate walls, windows, and doors are high or very low frequency. Just the same, such headphones are still very helpful, at least for me. > > Someone dribbling a basketball > > Someone else playing their music so loudly I can hear the thumping > > Someone hammering or otherwise building something -- bang bang bang > > Nothing will drown it out > > Perhaps I will re-read the posts about the noise cancelling headphones >
Guest guest
concidering that the headphones at bestbuy can always be returned within a short period of time if i didn't like them, i realy wish i'd had the good sense to try the sony headphones they were offering that were only around 200; would have saved me a hundered bucks off of my current debt with the bose. > > I wear earplugs inside my noise canceling headphones, over which I play brown noise. The earplugs allow me play the brown noise quite loudly without damaging my hearing. If a trigger gets through, I turn up the volume temporarily. My triggers are effectively gone with this setup. > > People here (including me) recommend Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones, which are comfortable for all-day wearing. They cost $300. > > The Sony MDR-NC500D noise canceling headphones are rated better (including comfort) and are sometimes discounted to $260. Anyone own these? > >

Guest guest
We just got new next door neighbors and they are a really nice young couple, and I thought we would be lucking out until I realized he has a young son who is there on the weekends and, guess what . . . his son loves to bounce his basketball in the driveway (there’s no hoop)! It’s actually my son who has Miso, however on a nice peaceful Saturday or Sunday morning, the bouncing ball thing makes me nuts, too. I happen to have a deck on the front of my house, right next to their driveway, so I thought I’d do what I could, more for my son than myself, and sat out there to read and, in-between smiling and being really nice, I also acted very startled every time he started to bounce the ball and interrupted my peace and quiet. I noticed he’s not doing it so much now, so maybe he noticed my reaction! (It also helps that the dad and his fiancee know about my son, and his fiancee is an occupational therapist who works with autistic kids). It’s definitely hard to find a way to let people know in a nice way, especially young kids who are not really doing anything wrong (except maybe starting out too early on weekend mornings) that you wish they would stop doing what they like to do – just doing kid stuff.
