Guest guest
Good morning, If a patient has become Medicare primary due to the COB but has opted only for Part A all along, when can they pick up Part B--do they have to wait for open enrollment or are they able to pick up B now since they do have Part A and it has become primary for them? If they have to wait until open enrollment do you have any suggestions on how to bring them in for pre-tx eval without Part B? Our patient's secondary is Anthem Blue Access. We would really appreciate some guidance on this! Thanks so much! Guest guest
Two options: 1) Withdraw the Renal Part A claim and resubmit a new claim for Renal A and B together. It’s unlikely Medicare has paid any Part A claims yet but if they have, the pt would have to pay them back in order to proceed. 2) Wait for open enrollment in 2013. This puts Part B into place on 7/1/13. Not a good option if Anthem won’t pay for Part B services now that Medicare is primary. No Part B is not a barrier to eval per se. Costs still go to the cost report. However if eval unearths a new dx or need for treatment, pt may not have sufficient coverage, depending on Anthem’s policy.
