Hi KimAre you ordering the scan pre transplant as part of the evaluation process. Thanks Bill Sent from my iPhone

It recently came to my attention that when we order PET scans, Medicare does not cover the service. Has anyone else run into this problem or come up with a way to get coverage?

Best,

Kim

Hi Bill,

Yes, they are being ordered pre-transplant. They are not ordered on every patient, but for complex patients who have often been waiting for a transplant for a while.

Thanks,

Kim

Hi KimThe cost of the scan for evaluation goes to the appropriate organ acquisition cost center. Medicare should NEVER be billed for evaluation services. Evaluation services are the responsibility of the hospital. Hope this helpsThanksBill Sent from my iPhone

Thanks Bill. I think that's where I got confused - for some reason that hasn't been getting loaded for those scans.

Kim
