Guest guest
Having MCS I have developed a sensitivity to all pain meds. I have lived with chronic face and head pain for 12 years now. At first I started off with over the counter pain relievers until my body started to react. What happens is the pain increases and becomes unbearable when I start becoming " allergic " or sensitive to the drug. I have run out of over the counters except for tylenol which doesnt do anything. Iam on multiple drugs for nerve pain which may help a bit but I`am still with a lot of pain expecially late in the day. I have been given mild narcotics for this part of the day and each narcotic has developed into this " extreme pain " telling me no more. I have tried so many and my doctor doesnt get MCS so she is getting a bit intolerant of this reason why every drug she gives me I cant take after a month or two. I now believe its ALL NARCOTICS. So where do I go from here for relief? Help!! I cant take any over the counter meds either...Any suggestions welcomed. nne
Guest guest
Have you tried fentanyl patches? Fentanyl is a bit easier than other narcotics for some of us who are sensitive to many drugs. Which opioids (preferred term for legally prescribed " narcotics " ) have you tried? Steve M in PA Having MCS I have developed a sensitivity to all pain meds. Guest guest
I am on the Fentanyl patches. While they don't help me with my joint pain, they are useful with my back pain. They are addicitve, and I am careful to try to bear the pain, while going without, as I am too afraid of getting hooked on them. I guess we all get hooked, but we are just regulated by our M.D.'s. Ask, they should help! Good luck! ________________________________ Subject: Re: Need suggestions for pain help / with mcs Have you tried fentanyl patches? Guest guest
Fentanyl does not come in pill form because 66% of it is destroyed by first pass metabolism. Since fentanyl patches do not work locally, but systemically, you put them on your arms (or chest or back) irregardless of the location of your pain. Guest guest
Hi-- Oh!!!!! Would LOVE to have a TENS unit!!!!! At the physical therapist I go to -the busted shoulder via canine- THEY have, of course, a kind of super TENS unit. They also use electro Acupuncture and other forms of massage which are like heaven (everyone leaves with a smile). He will refer some to pain clinics if he detects that the pain someone has is just too much. (For me this would beup to the ortho or of course my CFS/ ME/ Fibro guy. One thing which I shall never understand is .. WHY does Medicare etc not cover Acupuncture?? So foolish. It could help so damn many things. Its been hell so far in the daytime because I cant take anything to help with pain, but the increase of neurontin at night has helped with sleep. All she kept saying is lets stay with a " safe " drug.. Wth? All drugs are risks as far as Iam concderned. Guest guest
Plenty of people take neurontin without any problems, but I have double vision from taking it. It is permanent and a royal pain. I quit taking it back around 2004-5 and still have the double vision. > > I saw my doctor the other day and she would not go for the patches.
