Guest guest
Dear Teri, Have you been on this site long? The confusion thing is getting really scary at this point. I don't remember seeing any of your posts. Thank God for you!! I am so very, very excited to " talk " to someone who has been treated at Duke. Who is your main doc? Is it Killenberg? When were you diagnosed? Have you had any procedures performed? By whom? What do they tell you? Are you on the tx list? So many, many questions I have and I hope you don't think that I am a pain, but I am so very excited to hear from you! Please post again. Guest guest
Biddy, I've been on the list since it started & I am on the LiverSupport list too. I was diagnosed in Feb . of 1996 by Dr. Jowell. Well, actually confirmed diagnoses. I'll give you a kind of chronology of myself. In 1985 graduated from High School in Fayetteville ,N.C. That summer I became very sick with diarrhea, passing blood losing weight etc. Went to Ft.Bragg(Womach Army Hospital) had proctoscopy ,Flexi-sigmoidoscope, Barium enema, Blood work , stool cultures etc. Put on Prednizone and Azulfidine for Colitis. Over the years I've had many bouts of flare-ups some from Salmonella, C.difficile and some just flare ups. I married in 1987 to my high school sweet heart. Started seeing a Dr. J.Wes in Fayetteville. He did colonoscopy and diagnosed Crohn's. Had a son in Aug. 1989 and a daughter in Aug.1991. Worked until Nov. 1994. Dr. told me he thought I may have PSC. It freaked me out because he told me I should keep my job in case I need a transplant and insurance and all. I waited a year and finally let him do an ERCP. He couldn't get through so sent me to DUKE. They aggressively got through & I was in the hospital the rest of the week with pancreatitis. I was out of it but my husband said I threw up the whole time. I've taken Actigall but at present I am not taking anything. Had an MRCP about a year ago at DUKE, and last MAy had a Colonoscopy at DUKE. Dr. Onkin said I have Ulcerative colitis not crohn's and put me on Asacol. It made it worse. So All I do now is Metamucil. It seems to help. Most resent Liver tests say everything normal except for the Alkaline Phos. is 220 something. Ask me anything..I don't mind at all. I come and go with the group. Take care. Teri Bullock 32 PSC/UC in Hope Mills, NC
Guest guest
Hi Terri! Just 32 years of age and have been through all of this pain and suffering. You must be quite a lady! Where is Hope Mills? I live in Princeton, W.Va., which is at the southern tip of the WV Turnpike. You must have passed through here on or back from the north. You have had so many docs, I don't believe I could keep up with them. Thank goodness I have had only 4. Who is your main doc at Duke? My is Dr. Killenberg. How often do you go to Duke? Do you like your docs? I haven't had any of the ones you talked about -- see that is my luck, I don't get nice and good docs. You truly are an inspiration. Guest guest
Hope Mills is right beside Fayetteville, NC which is right beside Ft.Bragg ,N.C.! We are about 1 1/2 hours from Duke University. I like Dr. Jowell alot. But Dr.Onkin has an attitude. I only met her once so maybe thats not fair. I've been up there about 5 times in the since Feb. 1996. Was only admitted that Feb.1996 because of complications with the ERCP. The other visits have just been day visits. You must see snow in W.VA!! I love the snow but rarely see it! Maybe this year.I'm praying. It's been hard going though all of this at such a young age, but for the most part...I have a good attitude about it. I have a wonderful husband and two wonderful kids. We have been really blessed. I hate feeling bad as often as I do, but there are reasons for everything.I could be worse than I am. Take care! Guest guest
Hi Terri! I just happen to love snow also. My husband is the executive director of the Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce, Princeton, W.V. It is the first place you hit on your way north. We have a ski resort about 20 minutes from Princeton at Ghent, W.Va. Can't miss it!! At the huge intersection where my husband's office is we now have several hotels that have recently been built, several restaurants within that space, and probably the most beautiful place for seeing and being in the snow is at Pipestem State Park, which is about 30 minutes from Princeton. Come to our new homepage and you will learn even more!! PMCCC@... Our place and places near here have the neatest places to go -- white-water rafting, seeing the way a lot of people lived in the southern end of West Virginia in the coal days, there are two major league farm teams in our area -- the Princeton Devil Rays in Princeton and the Orioles in Bluefield, W.Va. This is just about 10 miles from each other -- and we are very proud of our teams!! Through all of the negative ads been going around West Virginia, the people that used to believe the negative things came here and stayed -- they loved it!! About 40 miles up the WV Turnpike is a magnificent building called " Tamarack " which is filled to the brim from all homemade goods from West Virginia and they have anything you would want from their one of their exquisite tables made from the best West Virginia wood and handcrafted that sells for only $12,000! When you see the workmanship, you will know why this particular table costs that much. Tamarack has a booth from The Greenbrier -- a 5-star facility located in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. Renowned for their great chefs and cooking schools, also located inside Tamarack is the food court -- not just any food court -- the food is supplied and cooked by the chefs at the Greenbrier. If you come don't forget to try they fried green tomatoes sandwiches -- to die for! I love our state so much and am going to be cremated and have my ashes spread over one of the lazy rivers in our state!! Guest guest
Hi Teri! When it snows here, just get in your car, SUV, whatever and head north to Princeton, WV. There is a huge intersection at I/77-460 and that is where my husband's office is located. You must get off of the Princeton exit. When you arrive and I will meet with you and your family or whomever and we will go sledding! If you or I don't feel up to that, we will just go around and see the most gorgeous snow scenery in the Eastern US!! We have a while to think about this, but according to the Farmer's Almanac we are to have snow storms in November and December -- forgot what days. It is like everything sometimes they hit it and sometimes they don't but it is so much fun to read the Almanac! Have a great day!
