Guest guest
I'm really sorry to hear that Cat. I just had the pooch we rescued when I got married die just under 2 years ago. The one thing i'm grateful for is that he went quick and didn't suffer. It was a very bad day for me & the rest of us. What strikes me the most is that the night before he woke me up by consistently ramming his snout into my face. I woke up, petted him and gave him a couple of " cookies " . He than crawled in bed with me. When I woke up he was breathing with great difficulty, but was totally unresponsive. I had to go out for a bit and was going to take him to put him down as soon as I got back. He waited for me to get back, my wife & kids to come home and than passed. I feel he had to say goodbye. Boomer was a neat dog. When we go him we weren't sure we could keep him as he was a Shepherd mix that was abused. I was able to handle him but no one else. He turned out to be a great dog....the one time I went to give one of my kids a little smack on the butt and he damn near tore my arm off, but didn't break the skin. About 6 months prior to the day he died I knew his time was getting short as he was really slowing down. One night after football practice I had a parent call me in tears as they were told by their landlord they had to get rid of their new puppy. Well to make a long story short my wife saw this 8 week old Lab Mastiff mix )brown & black brindle) and we all of a sudden had 2 dogs. Well as soon as we brought Brownie home Boomer came back to life, and he seemed to really enjoy having a little sister. The saddest thing I have ever seen is when we were burying Boomer. I lay him in the ground and as soon as we said our goodbyes I started to cover him up. Brownie went ballistic and started digging back at him. People don't give dogs enough credit...I firmly believe they're a lot smarter than most people give them credit for. The best thing you can do for you & your dog is everything the two of you enjoy. take whatever time GOD gives you and make the most of it. Kirk -- Everything in life sucks except things that should! Guest guest
Dear Cat, I too am so sad to know of Jakers illness because we know him through you. I always know when we've talked long enough because when we're ready to say good bye Jakers needs to go out. And how he goes to the clinic or hospital is it? With you to help others for visits. And how all these years you truly have taken care of each other through it all no matter what. I have been just as sad for you as all else this past week but thinking of you most because we after all, are here and at some point have to reach out to each other and share so we can look to the things that make us joyful. And as with you and I, we've always shared, even in the darkest of times, laughter in the tears. I hope to be home next time you call. Love with biggest hugs -- This 'n That~OT Greetings Dragon Slayers ( and don't you forget that please ) It has been a week of roller coaster emotions with sadness winning out this week at least, but moments of warm feelings, Uncle Fuzzy and Alli are home from the resort, and I pray that they will BOTH do as they are told and look after themselves! That goes without saying for the rest of my brood. If you have been around the mailing list you will know that I have my boy Jakers, he's my boy, and for the last 13 plus years he's the reason my feet hit the floor every morning. He's a black Cocker Spaniel I rescued almost 14 years ago now. I live with acute depression, and Jake helps me with that ( as you who are animal lovers will attest as will my old friends. Well last Thursday I noticed a growth inside his mouth, the Vet said it was the big " C " , whether it's a slow growing melanoma, or a fast moving Squamis (sp) cell we don't know!. We've sent it away for a pathology test! That takes a week. In the meanwhile he's doing very well, has the immune system of a tank, and gets better pain drugs than I do!LOL I don't know what the results will be, but my vet has said it depends on the type of cancer it is, but regardless, Jake is in the process of dying, and my heart is breaking. I have to admit that I have been thinking about his age, and the Lymphodema's ( non-cancerous growths that can turn bad )he has with the exception of his hearing loss, had a pretty good life. Could it have been better ..a resounding YES, but I did what I could for him, but not enough walkies, and he was never very good at bringing the ball back. Food is his toy of choice! With everything that's been occurring this is a small blip in the big picture, my blip. I just needed to share my sadness with people I trust. Thank you!
