Guest guest
Can you talk to your teacher about this? Or, your guidance counselor? To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Tue, January 3, 2012 4:42:45 PMSubject: How do you cope with triggers at school? I need suggestions for coping with sound trigger (mostly gum) at school (we can't have our headphones in). I really need help because my intolerance to the noise is starting to affect my grades from lack of focus on the teacher and just the sound and how it makes me feel. Please write some of your coping strategies if you have any! Thanks!
Guest guest
Several members have made huge strides with neurofeedback. My new year's resolution is to try it. In the meantime wear an ear plug in one ear (the one with the writing hand), cover it with your hair and use ur other finger to plug the other ear and release when u need to hear ur teacher. Also consider an ADA request to either ban gum in ur class or u get to wear headphones. Good luckHeidiSent from my iPhone Can you talk to your teacher about this? Or, your guidance counselor? Guest guest
You might also try having your doctor write a note to the school nurse or principal. Misophonia is something that they may not even be aware of, but once brought to their attention, seems like a simple thing to deal with: ban gum chewing in the classroom! Guest guest
When did chewing gum in class become an acceptable thing to do? Clearly, I am old. -tam > > > Can you talk to your teacher about this? Guest guest
I did that with one teacher and it worked out because I just picked a desk away from other students but all my other classes are full. A counselor is a good idea. Guest guest
Thanks! I've never heard of any of those. I'll research them. > > > Can you talk to your teacher about this? Guest guest
That's my next step. Talking to my doctor. I'm pretty sure she hasn't heard of it so it will be interesting. > > > > Can you talk to your teacher about this? Or, your guidance counselor? > > > > > > > > > > ________________________________ > > From: <duffyee@> > > To: Soundsensitivity > > Sent: Tue, January 3, 2012 4:42:45 PM > > Subject: How do you cope with triggers at school? > > > >  > > I need suggestions for coping with sound trigger (mostly gum) at school (we > > can't have our headphones in). Guest guest
I remembered being tortured at school. I sure wish I had talked to a guidance counselor who then could have alerted the teachers. I was just too embarrassed. Big mistake.Teachers are always asked to help other students with problems, learning disabilities, etc. But, you just don't know is since it is done discretely. Take advantage of this. Don't be like I was! I am so mad that teachers still let gum poppers/chewers munch on during class! Guest guest
I had the same problem all throughout my years at school. My parents contacted the school and they gave me permission to take tests outside in the hallway or in the library and I asked to sit in the back of the room in every class. It did help me a little bit but finially when senior year came i couldn't take it anymore. I'd literally go running out of the room crying some days. I talked to a teacher that I had one day when I was really upset and she talked to the principal. From there on out for the rest of the school year i was saved by my headphones with every sound someone made ! I hgihly suggest talking to your principal and showing him a article or two about misophonia... and also explian how it effects your school work. Guest guest
Here is a list of links to good articles on the internet about misophonia aka selective sound sensitivity syndrome, that you could email or print out for helping to explain and gain support.http://www.soundsensitivity.info/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=16 & t=262 To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Wednesday, January 4, 2012 10:31 AM Subject: Re: How do you cope with triggers at school?
