Guest guest
From Deb at DLitzFletc@... Gail R, I think the issue with dairy is that the byproducts of lactose digestion are irritating to the already damaged bladder lining. I know that both of my kids had trouble with bed wetting until age 4 or 5 if they drank any amount of milk or had any amount of ice cream or yogurt after 4 o'clock or so. It was always easier to not do dairy in the evening then to get up to take them to the bathroom at 12 or 1. They were also both lactose intolerant as infants, my son much more so than my daughter. I was also told when I was pregnant not to suddenly begin to drink a lot of milk because I already had a family history of milk allergy and did not drink it, accept in coffee and in cooking which meant almost never while I was pregnant. My coffee problem may be that we have been hunting for caffeine free and low acid as both the caffeine and the acid are nono's with my IC. And I do consider myself very blessed with Dr. and send everyone I know with gyn problems to him because I do think he is a top 10% doctor. I think part of what makes him so good is he relates to chronic pain as he has chronic, degenerative athrititis and has been managing rather than curing his own health issues for years. He has seemed almost as disappointed as I have been each time I have gone back in with this problem. I don't think it matters who works with you as long as they are committed to searching for answers for you and don't think that you are the problem, not the disease. Guest guest
Deb: > I'm on both lists and those two doctors are at the center of the >bickering over Kegels right now. Oh. That must be the vulvodynialist, then. I won't be part of a list anymore if those guys are on it! I used to be on the old list way back when but dropped off just before they shut it down ... after giving them (well, Dr. anyway) a piece of my mind. He sent me a very immature, somewhat nasty email in private that I didn't bother to answer. I suppose they're bickering about how it's not a good idea to do Kegels without the biofeedback equipment, right? (don't answer, please... I'm kind of kidding!) > Where do you get the Kava? Coffee has been a real sacrifice for me as we >have not been able to locate a low acid decaf anywhere!!! I've found it in most grocery stores. I don't know for sure if they make a decaf brand of Kava, though. I might have a jar of it around here somewhere, and maybe there's an 800 number to call and ask questions. Let me know if you can't find it anywhere! > Interestingly, many of the things you do okay with, like tuna, onions, >and dairy are way offlimits with my IC. Really?? What's so bothersome about those? I'm especially confused as to why dairy would cause problems! > I consider myself very fortunate to have a great gyn who has taken the >time to work with me and is not offended when I don't take his treatment plans >blindly, without question. I also have access to a gyn and a neurologist in >D.C. and others in Baltimore that are on the NVA medical advisory board. Wow -- you really DO sound lucky! I haven't been able to find a gyn who knows much anything about this so I usually end up educating THEM about it! (I usually see NP's rather than MDs) I have a great physician's assistant here in town who works with an internist/nutrition specialist and they're working hard to get this thing figured out [with me]. So far they were sharp enough to pick up on low thyroid, low female hormones, and recently I did the Great Smokies test and did 14 days of Diflucan. I doubt I would've gotten decent medical care like this with most other run-of-the-mill doctors around here! I'm just so glad she accepts the challenge and finds it fascinating {in a good way) rather than exasperating. I think we need a few hundred more 'doctors' like her! Sincerely, Gail R. Guest guest
Hi, Whoever was asking about decaf Kava, there is no such product. I called the Borden Company that makes Kava and they don't have any plans to make a decaf. Kava isn't supposed to be high in oxalates. Guest guest
I forgot to mention that if you are lactose intolerant they have milk called Lactaid milk that is supposed to be 100% lactose free. I have I.C. and VV and am able to drink it. As for tuna, some tuna fish has a lot of added ingredients so I really read the label to be sure. Of course mayonaise can be a problem for I.C. and so can onions. Darlene
